just saying that "Don't Tell A Soul" isn't indicative of the quality of releases in 1989. Yes, decent record. Is it great? Not even close.

I wouldn't call it a great record. I don't think there were 10 great records that year. I also know that there weren't ten records that I listened to more than Don't Tell A Soul that year. I can see leaving it off the list, because lots of people liked albums like NIN and Beastie Boys that I don't but still its a deserving of honorable mention.

This is a difficult year for me. In addition to those listed, there's also Ministry, The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste. It's probably between that and Pretty Hate Machine. Or something I'm forgetting.

Yeah, bad year. No wonder 'Doolittle' and 'The Stone Roses' are both lauded beyond what they actually are - good albums but nothing more.

Still, they are the best albums on the list and it's difficult to pick one but I'd probably go for 'Doolittle'.

Rush: Presto.

Landspeed record for the Endcap to Cutout Bin dash.

Except it ranks among the top favorites among Rush fans.

I love it - you guys who all love the cutout bin finds and cherish them are trying to cut down an album by saying it was relegated to the cutout bins.

I would say it's a top 6 record. I think it tends to be a little overrated because Rush's albums before and after it are so frickin' bad

Top 6 is fair, I think. Hold Your Fire (before) and Roll the Bones (after) definitely pale. They have their moments, but as albums I just don't feel like pulling them out very often. Counterparts, however, rules. I hate to even mention Test for Echo, but it too actually has some decent songs . . . not many of them, however. But Vapor Trails is a monster. Aside from the terrible recording/mixing, it's an incredible album, especially from a band that's been around as long as they have.
