From Domino:

Quote:
Domino is honoured to be releasing an album by the legendary group The Television Personalities, their first in 11 years. Daniel Treacy is one of the most distinctive and brilliant voices in British pop, unheard by far too many for far too long.

Ask anyone, anyone with even just a slightest interest in pop music and they will all have a different take on The Television Personalities… Someone will mention that they were Kurt Cobain’s favourite band. Someone else will go on about how they were the inspiration behind Creation Records and Alan McGee’s biggest heroes. And a third person will call them the Original Babyshambles, from across the room someone will ask if they really did support Pink Floyd on the back of their 'I Know Where Syd Barrett Lives' single. And didn’t they have the cheek to call an album 'They Could Have Been Bigger Than The Beatles'?

‘My Dark Places’ is released by Domino on the 27th February and is preceded by the single ‘All The Young Children On Smack, All The Young Children On Crack’ released on the 6th February on 7”.

That is excelletn news, T!
I'm curious to hear the new one.

But just one question:
Just how many bands were "Kurt Cobain's favorite band"?
Meat Puppets
Melvins
Daniel Johnston
Vaselines
Television Personalities

any more?

Young marble giants.

I think one of his biggest influences was The Wipers. I always seem to hear the wipers on most of his records. Mind you he did cover a load of wipers songs!

I hope they take this trainwreck on the road again. They were wonderfully chaotic when "Closer To God" came out.

I heard that they got kicked off a tour as Pink Floyd's opener for divulging to the audience where Syd Barrett actually did live.

That is just nuts.

EDIT:
From AllMusic:
Quote:
("I Know Where Syd Barrett Lives" is) The Television Personalities' most notorious song -- when Dave Gilmour tried to buy some hipster credibility for his first solo tour by hiring the TVPs as his opening band, they horrified both the crowd and the headliner by reading Syd Barrett's real address in Cambridge from the stage at this song's end --
