I just got up and I had very vivid dreams last night, including hearing Sigur ros, (at a farmhouse owned by Ice Cube and the guy who does electrical work for me around here) and then going to a club where Book Of Love' s Tubular Bells was playing...
I may be projecting, but it seems I recall Air's Playground Love at some point too.
do we all have music in our sleep?

Sometimes, but only when it's the focal point.

Once dreamt (in highschool) that I was a backup guitar player for pearl jam, but they didn't want me on stage, so I had to sit offstage in a sound room with headphones on, and play through a mic'd amp. That one was full of music.

i dreamt a few months ago that i was playing guitar for some band. and i had kinda wanted to do it, but the problem is that i do not play guitar and had no idea what i was doing. so the show started and i just kinda stood there not knowing what to do. the song was pretty great, though.

also, i have heard songs in my sleep and then wanted to write them when i wake up, but never seem to remember them clearly enough. that always reminds me of the paul simon "snl" when he remembers every single person except art garfunkel.

I had a dream once where I went to a Ramones concert, just walking around listening to them play, even though I never listen to them in real life.

I had another dream that night, where my dad got shot walking into a building.

The next day, I woke up, and the first thing I read was an article calling Johnny Ramone something along the lines of "the father of the punk guitar sound." He had died in his sleep that night.

I was a little wierded out.

A lot of my "soundtrack" dreams are triggered by a radio next to my bed while I'm asleep. I've had long conversations with Rush Limbaugh, and have even visited his palacial "house", ALL triggered by real-time radio.
For example, I was having a conversation with someone in a dream, they stopped and said, "Listen...", and the Beatles "Lady Madonna" started. I then woke up and the song continued unbroken in waking life on the bedside radio. I've had zany, goony, circus-music soundtracks to some dreams. Other times I've heard unknown but great finished songs.

I am a very amateur songwriter, "highly sensitive person", have depression, avoidant personality disorder, and have VERY vivid dreams and LOTS of content. SO much content that I can't keep a dream journal of ALL that happens, but keep a detailed list of dream objects, subjects, etc. This morning I woke up with an awareness of a dream "object" that I have known about, WHILE ONLY IN THE DREAM STATE FOR OVER 20 YEARS..."IT" finally having surfaced in my waking consciousness: The "existence" of a practice reel-to-reel tape deck onto which there are MANY songs and ideas.... WITHIN my past dreams, I have always been STRONGLY comforted, KNOWING that this tape "exists" and I can use it anytime to create more songs. The problem is, it's a "knowing" that's like a circuit-turned-on-within-the-brain that seems to have no actual content behind it ( sort of like a schizophrenic that looks at a plant, and KNOWS it's a sign to proclaim he's / she's God). What ALSO appears from time-to-time in dreams, is a FINISHED ALBUM...I just "know" the songs on the record within the dream, along with the album colors and art work, but cannot recall much when I wake up. As a SIDE note to further illustrate this dream-weirdness, I have also dreamed about "year markers", separate block objects that each display a numerical "year" number (in a different numbering system), at which I can look at and INSTANTLY remember THAT YEAR in some different "life". The other morn I also woke up with a tune fragment out of a dream state that I immediately put on tape. ANYONE ELSE have dream activity regarding songwriting? THanks..

My dreams rarely include music, but when they do, it's awesome. It's like that "perfect" music in the hitchhiker trilogy -- it's like mainlining-on-endorphins good.

If anyone ever finds a way to duplicate that quality, I'd be a junkie for life (like I'm not already) [for music, that is].
