mountain goats - if you've heard their other stuff, you'll like this. imo it's their best album yet.

clientele - poppy fare; a pleasant listen; nothing overly-remarkable

i found the clientele to be a little average. only listened to it a couple times though, although im not feeling the urge to listen more.

this mountain goats album is just like the rest, to me, some blindingly amazing songs that are probably better than anything else i've heard this year, and then some other indescript stuff around them.

Yeah, I have to admit, the Clientele album didn't wow me as much as I wanted it to.

Both Clientele and Mountain Goats were just ok with me. Neither impressed me enough to want to run out and own them.

Rp--I'm really liking SYR6. Very moody, minimalist stuff. Great for a long drive or flight.

I'm digging yr quote as well. I read that on espn and was cracking up.

mountain goats - best stuff darnielle has done. might be a little too polished for long-time fans, bit vanderslice brings something to the table, thats for sure. i have it at #3 this year.

clientele - meh

I agree with ^^^.

I will say that this is the first MG album that I can listen to all at once and not want to tear his head off.

MG - Definitely top 3 for the year for me....Probably my #1. Darnielle finally turns his nefarious gift for storytelling (Going to, "alpha" series) on himself, and JV makes it all sound so damned g-o-o-d.

Clientele will probably be in my top 20. It's so...swimmy. It's like an ether - you probably won't catch onto it if you peruse it once, or in an excited mood. You know the feeling when you're too tired to go to bed, yet still amazingly comfortable under the covers? That's what the Clientele do for me...

Clientele is definitely a grower

The Clientele album probably grew on me more than any other LP this year.

At first I was lukewarm about it (my initial review of it is still kicking about in my Konstantiranks thread) but with repeated listens its forced its self into my Top Twenty.

In terms of 'airplay' it's probably a Top Five. It seems to fit a lot of moods for me.
