GREENVILLE, S.C. -- An upstate soccer team -- for 11-13-year-old girls -- spent New Year's Eve in an Orlando hotel with 200 self-proclaimed partner-swapping swingers.
The girls played for a team in the Carolina Elite Soccer Academy and went to Florida for a Disney-sponsored tournament.
The team booked the hotel through a travel agent and said it was never told that a national "swingers convention" was also booked that weekend.
The swingers Web site said the group was there to meet and swap partners.
Parents of the young girls said it was a shocking thing to see.
"They were starting to walk around and hardly clothed at all or showing themselves to other members of the group," said parent Rob Young.
"You could tell none of them had any undergarments of any kind on," said parent Julie Downs. "Some of the dresses were see-through."
Those parents say the team was supposed to ring in the New Year with other teams in the hotel lobby but they were forced to stay in their rooms because of the swingers.
WYFF News 4's sister station, WESH in Orlando, tried to speak to the hotel manager Tuesday but he said he had just heard about the problem.
The parents said they're waiting for the hotel to apologize
A few years back I took a girls soccer team that I was coaching to a tournament in Athens, GA. We stayed at a downtown hotel and discovered, after check-in as we entered the elevator with 5 or 6 drag queens, that there was some sort of drag queen event going on and they were all "camped" out at our hotel. There was much giggling in the elevator, by both parties, and needless to say, the conversation amongst the parents that weekend was more entertaining than the usual mundane "How's your other kid?" sorta bullshit.
