the best thing that's happened to me lately.

Image

I have a few of his albums on my computer, but they're pretty all over the place. I really, thoroughly enjoy each track on this compilation. I'm definitely looking into buying the albums that these particular songs come from.

This post goes out to splates. Not that he got me into him, but he's the only other person I personally know who's into Gainsbourg.

Perhaps i'll load this onto YSI tonight and post the link here, if anyone would like. If you would like me to, reply to the thread, but i'm pretty sure this will be read but it will drift off into page two in a few hours.
Oh well.

I love Serge. I've gotten into him in the last year or so and have loved every minute of it.

there are lots of us here who are fans.

I have that one and like it. Histoire de Melody Nelson is the only everyone talks about and rightly so, but Gainsbourg Percussions doesn't get nearly the love it deserves. That's probably my second fave.

Still need to check out his foray into reggae.

What actual albums could you recommend? I have about two or three individual albums on my computer, but this is the only physical copy of one of his albums (or compilations in this case) that I have. I expected to like a few songs off of this like I do the releases I have on my computer, but I fell in love once I had listened to the album in its entirety.
I wanted to buy the jazz compilation thats out of his, but i'm not sure. I probably will. This compilation was flawless in my opinion though, which is coming from only three listens to it. I really enjoy it.
I have no fucking idea of what he's saying at all, though.

There are a couple of new compilations out now...I'm not crazy about either one of them.

The one you have displayed is by far my favorite.

Definitely stick to his early jazzy/poppy stuff...his 80s stuff is kinda cold to my ears.

To answer your question about specific albums, Historie de Melody Nelson is my favorite, and the most essential as an album...as for the rest you're better off finding decent broad retrospectives.

I believe I have a reggae album of his on my computer. I'll double check to make sure I have it in its entirety, and if so I will PM you with it tonight. Just remind me because I tend to forget.

How are the recent Love & the Beat comps? Are they any good?

The reviews I've seen haven't been very good. Mostly 3 stars out of 5. I think part of it is oversaturation -- there are far too many comps of his work. Better to go with the studio albums IMO.

Well my copy has a 1996 copyright on it but even so it was a pretty good guess. I like '69 Annee Erotique'. I don't speak French though, I wonder what it's about!

weird. I'm just going by the internet release date. You were close. I just always have to point out that even though I have a D in math I can still count up to, or below 10.
