I just wanted to say that while I like the taste of Starbucks, Caribou Coffee makes the best mochas in the world. And believe me, I've tried mochas all over the place from local coffee shops to corporate chains.

I didn't see it. I tried to further examine their "menu," but since I was wearing a Faint shirt, one of the guys behind the counter assumed I was a big fan of the Saddle Creek label and started talking to me about Cursive, Desaparacidos, Bright Eyes, etc.

That's hilarious. "No, I just like this one good band."

You can kick the habit. First step is finding a local, non-evil coffee shop that makes a decent mocha. It's not likely to be a complete replacement, but you might be able to make the trade to ease your conscience. Then just keep trading down till all you can justify paying for is gas station coffee. I mean, $3.40 for a small (pardon me, a tall)? Psh.

They are really good though. It took a lot for me to cut it out.

i usually tend to just go with the regs coffee. doesn't cost me $2.50 and is a pretty decent cup.

no offense to the lovers, but those frappa-whatever coffee milkshakes are kinda gross to me--what with all the whipped cream and caramel on top and stuff. plus, it's the same as eating a big mac. that one thought alone (plus the $4 price tag) is enough to keep me away.

I just always get a Tall Regular coffee, and I don't mind paying $1.47 total for it. I have gotten the Green Tea Iced Coffee, and while its awesome, I don't get it alot.

i don't mind the BUX every now and then...but since i got a 'spresso machine, i do prefer to make my grande soy latte's at home when i have the time. AND i get to throw in a third shot for FREE when i'm feeling a little crazy.

but that does take time and effort, so when i'm in a rush, i hit the starbux. i like that they use the vanilla soy, which gives just enough sweetness to forgo the too-sweet syrups they use.

I used to work in a coffe shop for about a year so now when I go to coffe shops I always mange to notice little things that they did wrong and think to myself how much better it would have been if I made it. I bought a esspresso machine which is cheaper but a pain to clean.

In that year did you once check the sign out front for the spelling of "coffee"?*

*or "espresso"?

I have two great places that both carry almond syrup (major plus for me) and have a good cup of leaded. this is all anyone really needs. Starbucks tastes good, but are bad.

and it's far more important to say "espresso" right than to spell it right.

What does Starbucks do that's so bad? Educate me, I honestly don't know.

I've only been there once but the gf goes everyday----I probly would too if I had one next door to where I work like she does.

No, you love Maxwell House. Admit it. It tastes like asshole and shoe leather, but it gets your pump going, and that's what you need the most. Plus $2 for a cup of coffee seems outlandish to Yail Bloor mind, espcially when he can get it hot fresh and cheap at home.
I LURV Garbucks, cos its STRONG, and you know what you are getting into. Unlike many of the road stops i have to make...where they OPENLY PEE IN THE COFFEE POTS.

I am a snob about so many other things (whiskey, wine, movies, music) that I just don't have time to be a coffee snob. Garbucks is fine by me.

Since you know so much about me in real life.
I used to work at a liquor store, so I know from wine..or at least know what I like to drink and not drink and what I can get into for a good price.

Oh, and another thing about Garbucks -- that Stones rarities disc for sale there is JAIL.

I'm just saying, I don't think anybody here can really afford to be a "wine snob," at least to the same degree that we might be music snobs (mostly because we can't steal wine on the Internet).

That makes sense. And I understand what you mean, but if you read Wine Spectator or any of those other trade mags, you can quickly discern that you can get 89-93 rated wines for less than $20 very easily.

To get to the 98-100 rangem you're dropping $100-$200

Everything in between is not really worth the money.

Nothing personally, I'd rather roast my own at home and not sacrifice freshness or money.

As far as coffee shops are concerned, any owner with a brain would tell you that Starbucks has done nothing but facilitate the vast amount of coffee shops that have opened in the past 5 years. They run a successful business and have really created a market for coffee shops. But again, I dont care for their coffee. On the thruway I'll get it because, as Loogar said, the rest of the stuff is piss. But anyone who compares Starbuck's and Wal-Mart is clueless.

I'd say price is the biggest strike against their "specialty drinks" otherwise, they are darn good. Also, they are absolutely full of calories so if you care at all about health, you'll want to stop making regular stops for the hot chocolate and mochas. As for the regular coffee, I think it tastes good but I prefer to make my own and save the money.

i hate starbucks. i used to work there when i was 18, and i'll tell you, that is some SHIT coffee. i'll only drink their coffee if it's the only place around and i need my caffeine fix. if i don't have my caffeine in the morning, i'm the biggest bitch and fully dysfunctional.

out of coffee chains, i like coffee bean.

there's this mom-and-pop coffee shop in long beach that i absolutely love... called portfolio. it's my favorite coffee joint. yum.
