i'm thinking of picking up 'from her to eternity' but i was wondering if there was another that was more essential.

From Her To Eternity was the second Nick Cave I picked up, I believe. I picked up Murder Ballads first. It depends on if you want stuff more like The Birthday Party, or if you've heard Crime & the City Solution, a side project of Mick Harvey. If you want the music to be closer sounding to those bands then pick up the late 80's to early 90's albums. His stuff gets softer in a sense, with his later albums, such as Murder Ballads and the Boatmans Call. Of course Nick Caves early albums still don't sound identical to his prior project, The Birthday Party, they still have the theatrical aspect to them.
My favorites are Let Love In, Tender Prey, Kicking Against the Pricks (covers) and From Her To Eternity. If you like the Birthday Party, listen to Scratch Acid as well. And if you haven't heard the Birthday Party, their albums are always cheap so invest in all of them. Junkyard and Prayers On Fire are my favorites.

There are many essential Nick Cave albums.

Someone bump this thread in the morning since its title begs for OPA! to gay it up appropriately, K?
Thanks.

My god what a horrid photoshop job.

On topic though, I'm kinda partial to 'Murder Ballads' myself. This was the first NC&tBS album I spun at my college radio station, and while not really the quintessential NC album, it did however make me want to go out check what all the hullabaloo was about.

I'm not expert but have definitely grown to be a big fan.

The first thing I bought was the best of, which is usually not my style but I was kind of intimidated.

His latest is great and quite accessible if that's what you're looking for. It is one of my favorite albums in the past couple of years. Such amazing songwriting and instrumentation.

If you're looking for older stuff I'm sure there's a more seasoned fan around here who could help you out.
