Steve Wynn & the Miracle 3 . . . tick . . . tick . . . tick

Guess it finally got a release here in the US last week. I've heard some good things about it since it was released in Europe a few months ago, but his albums always seem to stay a little underground. I haven't heard any of his stuff since that great 2001 double LP/CD, Here Come The Miracles. Love that one. Guess this completes what is akin to a Tuscon trilogy, Miracles being the first one recorded down there at Wavelab with Howe Gelb and some of his goat taco eating friends. Just his core band on this one. Think I need this.

Was just reading some of his thoughts about it at http://stevewynn.net/show_offdoc.php?id ... 9522e7f3c7

Yeah, the casino guy. He plays a little guitar and sometimes even sings in his clubs, so they decided to go ahead and cut a record. Good stuff. Got kind of a funky Barry Manilow meets Wayne Newton sound ;)

Hehehe, the Dream Syndicate. The Days of Wine and Roses. 1982. A post Velvet Underground classic of alternative rock. That Steve Wynn. Kind of a mix of Lou Reed and Neil Young. Rhino finally remastered that classic and included the EP that preceded it a few years ago. Great album.

Anyway, fast forward to 2001 and a whole bunch of very good solo albums and collaborations behind him and they go down to the desert and record Here Come the Miracles, and it's fantastic. My album of the year. Maybe the best of his career after The Days of Wine and Roses. I've probably said some things about it before around here and I'm sure there's probably some others that love it too. Sounds like this new one is about the same except even a bit more unhinged.

BTW, Fred Mills named this new one his best of the year in the Pazz & Jop poll which was what led me to check if it was available now since I like and agree with much of his musical taste and writings. His review in Harp Magazine is at http://harpmagazine.com/reviews/cd_revi ... le_id=3895
