what's it like?
Yeah, the casino guy. He plays a little guitar and sometimes even sings in his clubs, so they decided to go ahead and cut a record. Good stuff. Got kind of a funky Barry Manilow meets Wayne Newton sound
Hehehe, the Dream Syndicate. The Days of Wine and Roses. 1982. A post Velvet Underground classic of alternative rock. That Steve Wynn. Kind of a mix of Lou Reed and Neil Young. Rhino finally remastered that classic and included the EP that preceded it a few years ago. Great album.
Anyway, fast forward to 2001 and a whole bunch of very good solo albums and collaborations behind him and they go down to the desert and record Here Come the Miracles, and it's fantastic. My album of the year. Maybe the best of his career after The Days of Wine and Roses. I've probably said some things about it before around here and I'm sure there's probably some others that love it too. Sounds like this new one is about the same except even a bit more unhinged.
BTW, Fred Mills named this new one his best of the year in the Pazz & Jop poll which was what led me to check if it was available now since I like and agree with much of his musical taste and writings. His review in Harp Magazine is at
