i can swim, but not terribly well. when i did a triathlon two summers back, i backstroked for the swimming part. my parents taught me to swim when i was very young, but i'm a little rusty these days.

right on.

i swam competitively for 11 years, stopped when i went to college. i still love it and get in the water pretty frequently for triathlon training.

I can swim well but dont particularly enjoy it much anymore. We took swimming lessons at like age four. Lotsa pools and lakes to fall in around here.

what was amazing to me is when i lived in nc, so many people could not swim. i dont know anyone here who can't - there is a lot of water here so you better know how.

I know a 36 year old guy that never learned how to swim. It amazes me that he can't snorkel or do other water activities when he and his wife go on vacation.

I thought swimming lessons were a given for most folks... I took them when I was 5-6. I can't swim competitively or super fast, but I can swim well enough to get where I need to go, or tread water.

I can swim with clothes on (or at least, used to be able to -- went through survival-oriented and lifeguard-oriented-type swimming classes), but I can't do any of the fancy strokes.

Yeah, see I same here. All of the above in fact. It's a must in my family, especially since my parents were big swimmers and vacationers to beaches.

My son finally figured it out pretty well last summer. He was struggling for a while but I kept taking him down to the pool a couple times a week and suddenly he just got it. I still want him to try lessons again.

And yeah, I know some people who don't know how and it always catches me by surprise since I too thought it was a given growing up that everyone learned how.

"Breast stroke" Teeheehee.

I can't do any fancy techniques or anything but I can go in water deeper than myself and enjoy myself. I never made it past orange because I was terrified to put my head under the water.

I am the king of treading water, though.

I can swim. I grew up across the street from a public pool. I used to hate the water due to tubes in my ears that I wasn't supposed to get wet. Once I got them out and got accustomed to getting my head wet, I went swimming every day during the summer until I was probably 14 or 15. If I wouldn't have been such a good wrestler, I would have joined the swim team.

Yes, and can do it pretty well though I haven't been swimming in quite awhile.

I've taken up swimming on my lunch breaks (when I can). I get a great work out in less than an hour, can get it over with so I don't have to go in the evening, and don't come back to work sweaty.

I can swim pretty well, but I never did it competitively so I tire after about 3 laps.
