So i've recently got a hold of a few tracks off of Celebration's first record, and I must say that I'm fucking digging it. I'll be off to see them on thursday, and I'm curiuos if anybody here has the album. Is anybody else here into it?

Here's a couple tracks to check out if you're curious. If you've never heard it, it's crazy, spastic experimental post rock, produced by one of the dudes from TV on the Radio, who helped this band get signed to 4AD. The singer (who's a girl that sounds like a dude) has a shit tone of attitude (a la karen o) while sounding like no one i can think of.

I saw her when she opened for TV on The Radio as Birdland with the dude who plays in his socks. She winked at me and it freaked me out.

But I can't get into the Celebration stuff. Don't ask me why.

I really love the album. They have a MySpace page which I've linked in my music web log thingy (see below).

Holy shit, Celebration blew my mind last night. They played a smallish NYC venue called rothko that's got a pretty decent sound system and nice big stage. The singer, Katrina Ford has got chops, swagger and presence that come off like an experimental version of Karen O. She probably spent about a third of the show singing in the audience, which was always about a breath away from turning into a dance party. She sounds more like a woman live than she does on the record, which is a good thing in my mind. Anyway, the biggest suprise was how rhythmic this band is. Their drummer is fucking ridiculously good, and they had David Sidek from TVOTR on stage to play more drums and some guitars for maybe 5 or 6 songs. I'm pretty sure the singer from TVOTR was also there, playing the tamborine on a track. This band has fantastic energy and a very unique sound, I don't understand how indie-dom isn't creaming their pants over them right now. Check it out folks, and play it loud.

I dig the tracks I've heard, and been meaning to pick up the record for awhile... I was gonna check them out when I was at CMJ- but I ended up getting into the Wolf Parade show instead (which was well worth it).

I thought that this was gonna be a Mardi Gras thread.
