Actually, I think "Mannequin" qualifies.
In this universe, or any other.

Took a while for the Supremes to make the grade, though I may pick "Baby Love", or "Love Child"

You mean that they got better through their career? I disagree... their second album was a masterpiece... a transition from 50's early 60's girl-group pop, raw R&B, and brilliant songs and uncluttered soulful singing.
Their work got increasingly schlocky and show-biz...

These cuts are among the greatest r & b of the decade, several where Ballard or Wilson sang lead:

1. Where Did Our Love Go

3. Baby Love

5. Come See About Me
6. Long Gone Lover
7. I'm Giving You Your Freedom
8. A Breathtaking Guy

10. Standing at the Crossroads of Love
11. Your Kiss of Fire
12. Ask Any Girl

No, I meant that it took longer than I would have expected for The Supremes to make an appearance in this thread. I agree with you on the brilliance of their early material, but I don't know enough about them to comment on the relative merits of their later material.

I could list at least a hundred, but these especially:

Borgeouis Tagg - "I Don't Mind At All"

Wtf? This sort of jumped out at me. I used to like some corny song that Brent did in the mid 90s..."Perfect Harmony" or some shit. I never heard Borgeouis Tagg though.

It was Brent & Larry's only pop hit. Got to maybe #34 or #36. Very sweet and simple love song.

Listening to Toots & The Maytalls inspired me to think of this choice:
Jimmy Cliff - "The Harder They Come"

Now, that is just a goddamn perfect song.
