Finally saw this tonight. It's not of my favorite Miyazaki films just because I found parts of it confusing. But it's still Miyazaki so it's still miles ahead of anything else being made these days. Especially Disney.

The animation in this was so beautiful that it just made me hate Disney and their CGI-only policy even more.

My only qualm now is that all the Studio Ghibli dvd's are still $27+ around here.

I love Miyazaki. My kids have all been reared on his stuff, for better or worse.

Just saw Howl and Whisper of the Heart. Whisper was definitely my favorite, I think it is one of Studio Ghibli's all time best.

I like Howl, and I agree that parts of it didn't make sense. But I suppose my favorite Studio Ghibli film would be Princess Mononoke, with Spirited Away close behind it.

Though Totoro has the cuter plush dolls.

I think Whisper is the only Miyazaki film I haven't seen, actually. It just came out in a North American release with an english audio track, right?

I've never even heard of Whisper of the Heart. Is that an old one?

Hard to say what my favorite Miyazaki/Ghibli is. Maybe Princess Mononoke or Nausicaa. I really like all of the ones I've seen.

As far as Disney goes, the digital-only route isn't the reason why they're so horrible. They seem utterly opposed to the idea of ever putting a good story onto the big screen. I sincerely hope they don't have any influence on Pixar now.

Their movie scheduled for 2009, called Rapunzel Unbraided, is the one I'm most anticipating from Disney right now. The animation is supposed to be such that the movie almost looks like a watercolor painting. And it should mark their foray back into fairytale-type stories, as opposed to the stuff like Lilo & Stitch and Chicken Little.

It's from 1995, but was released just a few days ago in North America with an english audio track.

The storyboarding and script are by Miyazaki, but the director was Yoshifumi Kondō. He was supposed to be the successor to Miyazaki, but he died before ever directing another movie.

I'd put it alongside Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa as my favorites from Studio Ghibli. It's very different from those two, but amazing.

I REALLY REALLY wish it wasn't so late. I'm in the mood to watch Spirited Away now. I haven't seen it in a couple years.

I think Spirited Away is meant to be watched while you enjoy a hallucinogen.
