While there are several standout tracks and no real clunkers, I'd still rank Blacklisted waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of this. The Tigers Have Spoken is also better. Yet, I wouldn't go so far as to call this a disappointment, either. Maybe it'll be more of a grower.

I would say that it starts strong and peters out, but "peters out" isn't the best term for an album you enjoy from beginning to end.

As much as I love Neko, I just can't get into this new album. It ain't bad, by any means, but it isn't resonating with me. I'll stop short of calling it a disapointment, but I will say it fell short of my very lofty expectations. I was hoping for an "A," but got a "B-," instead.

i would grade it worse than that, honestly. just far too much slow stuff.

I'm with Bloor. "The Needle Has Landed" is one of the best songs of the year so far.

i agree w/ ft. while she sounds wonderful on this new album, it just didn't grab me, perhaps, because she's wearing out this southwestern folkie torch-song singer schtick. plus, i don't like the production angle of the muddled music that sounds like it's trapped in a vaccuum. she shoulda stuck to performing more w/ the new pornos than recording this album because after having seen her perform last year and a couple of other times, that might have been it.

I haven't had a chance to listen to her new album yet, but I think sticking with the new pornographers instead of writing her own songs and putting out her own albums would be a bad idea. It can't be very satisfying to be in a band where you have no creative input.

that was just sarcasm and a bitter jab at her stiffing the madison crowd a couple of weeks ago

i really like it - at least 5 or 6 really good tracks. i also like that most of the tracks are pretty short. i do somewhat agree with the comment about the production above - not the best.

I bought this without hearing a note beforehand, which is something I rarely do. I love it. Her voice justs gets me, I could give a fuck what she's even singing about.
