So, once I saw Chicago punk band Pegboy at a mid-sized club, and their singer, Larry Damore had a presence that was just too damn bog for the building. The guy came out on stage and was just larger than life: broad-shouldered, stalking the stage, and had a HUGE, tremendous voice.

My last band, Sub Rosa played a show on the same bill as thi band called Dummy, who happened to have among their ranks, Mr. Damore's roommate. So, he was in attendance at one of my shows and I got the chance to talk to him a little. Told him that I loved the band and how tremendous I thought theirs and his performance was that night. He was genuinely humble, quiet, and even a little shy. Gave me a heartfelt "thank you" and a smile. I said, "No, thank you for that performance that night." He just smiled again.

He was pretty damn inconspicuous all night long. Kept quiet and hung out with his group of friends. Seemed very nice and, like I said, even shy. So odd for someone with that kind of presence on-stage.

two Warrior Soul posts in one week. WOW.

Kory Clarke, front man for WS, on stage was always knwn for his political rants, hatred of Bush Sr. and Jr, mouthing off about his record label (Geffen), etc....Probably ruined the band chances of any kind of real success as they were critical faves (except for allmusic)..

I have had the privlidge to get to know him and become friends with him since he now lives in Brooklyn. Truly one of the niest guys around. Strong with his opinions but approachable and super appreciative to his fans.

You keep mentioning them and I'm going to have to run out and buy their albums again. Haven't heard them in a decade, at least, but suddenly I want to hear Drugs, God, and the New Republic.

Theyre all out of print, however, my friends label is -re-releasing them in a few weeks with a few live cuts on each....

The first three records are coming out April 4th I believe, although I have seen them in stores already. Mistake at the distro....

then the last two records and a DVD are coming out in the fall..

Drugs, God....ruled! Well, all their stuff did.

My wife is a HUGE fan of Shawn Smith(of Brad, Pigeonehead and Satchel fame) - we approached him one night after a show after my wife had had a few too many and she confessed her love for him and his music....he thanked her and they both stood there awkwardly for a minute while my wife tried to make conversation with him.....he finally said, "I really don't talk that much". It was just such a striking difference from his stage persona and the way he sings that we were kind of shocked - the show was a KEXP sponsored show and we were talking to a couple of the DJ's afterwards and they confirmed what he had said about himself, that he is fairly intensely shy.

That is good to know - I was going to grab 'em off Amazon cheap, but I may just hold off and wait for these.

Saw them opening for Queensryche back on the Empire tour. My friend and I had to take her mom, who really liked "Silent Lucidity," but she didn't really appreciate Warrior Soul (no surprise there.) When Kory announced that their next song was "Lullaby," she said, "Oh, this should be pretty!" Wrong!

LOL.... I have a video of them on that tour. I think it was in San Fran or Boston, but it was a heavy Republican state, and Kory went off on Bush Sr., and basically told the whole crowd that they were sheep and were gonna die with the president they elected. Great stuff. So much stuff got thrown at him from the crowd, that he stormed off the stage and the set was stopped 3 songs in. I kid him about that to this day.
