I have pretty long hair right now but I'm going to get it cut today.

Anyway, the point of this thread is I have a big problem 'describing' to hairdressers the style I'm looking for.

Basically I want a 'Thurston Moore' style haircut. How do I describe this to the girl? The way I'm saying this in my head I could easily end up with a mullet and I don't want that.

Imagine what you would say in a similar circumstance and I'll write it down and read it to the stylist.

Bring a picture to the hair salon and say, "Like that".


Do you really want to cut your long hair though? What with the curse of the minges and all...

Take a picture of Thurston Moore. Tell the girl to give you an approximation of his cut.

I'm not taking a picture! Then they will know I'm copying someone else! I don't think men should be taking pictures in, I'm not comfortable with that at all.

I have to describe in words. As for cutting long hair, it grows back real quick so if I don't like it, I won't have long to wait. It's not like I'll be getting a skin head.

Just out of interest - how much? The place I go to charges £16 (about $30) but then I usually have to get a wet cut because my hair is virtually uncombable.

I have the same problems, in the middle of growing my hair and i just wanted it tidying a little bit and she ended up going on about layers. I had no idea what she was talking about so i ended up doing a runner rather redfaced.

Yeah, I pay about 30 bucks USD (not including tip). I've trained my girl to give me a cut where I basically only need four haircuts a year. I can get away with being a bit "shaggy" though.
