Quite possibly the worst film of its kind since Palindromes. Thankfully, not quite Gitmo, though... It was just JAIL enough that I felt dirty admitting to one of my co-workers that I saw it, but not dirty enough that I should have self-admitted myself to a sex offender watch-list.

As well, it was boring. Unsurprisingly, then, Wes Anderson had his name on the credit as a producer. (Outside of Life Aquatic, I have not been able to digest his work.)

And, Laura Linney is a horrible actress. Jeff Daniels isn't much better. And those two kids portraying the children, I think they're going to need therapy... Lots of it. William Baldwin was pretty good though as the third Wilson brother.

Overall, I'd agree that this movie is overrated, but not nearly as bad as you thought. And Linney is definitely not a horrible actress. Of the 2, Daniels was the overactor.

Since I'm your exact complement with regard to Anderson movies, I'll probably like this. However, Palindromes was in fact awful.

This was one of my favorite movies of the year. I thought the script was well written, and the movie wasn't boring at all. Also, I love Wes Anderson's movies, especially Royal Tennenbaums and Rushmore, so I guess it makes sense that we disagree.

Ditto. Hell I used to be on his messageboard a few years ago. He used to come on and answer our stupid questions. I also have the HUGEST crush on the man.

I haven't seen the movie yet, Netflix is shipping it today, hallelujah. I've been dying to see this flick.

I'll voice my opinion on it friday.

for some reason, the previews on the DVD are for the worst-looking pseudo-highbrow movies imaginable, like if i was still 18 I would fall down running to the theatre for this crap. it always worries me when the producers approach me before the movie with "woah, if you like THIS crap..."

I'm pretty sure I woulda hated you when you were 18.

this makes me want to watch Barcelona, which I will do. wait was Carlos Jacott in this? I didn't see him in any of the stuff that I saw, and that would be a shame. Those guys are like BFF i though.

that's okay, I was going to phish shows when I was 18.

I don't know how to feel about that. One of the things I actually really like about the Anderson/Baumbach canon is the repeated use of the actors, or at least the really talented ones. No Chris Eigeman in it either? what the balls.

Why did I think Jeff Bridges was in this instead of Jeff Daniels? Should that make an iota of difference?

you say paxton, i say pullman. there's only like 7 people and one baldwin in this movie, they couldn't cast felix and justine bateman just to appease one drunk in PA who was too busy to go see the damned thing in the theatre.

I haven't seen this, but I'd like to. And I've dug all of Anderson's movies, although I can understand why others don't.

So, you say it's terrible except for the work of a BALDWIN brother? Or is that a different Baldwin?

Also, Barcelona is great.

why not they got Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips to do the score for that one snooty drunk in Red Hook who walks Baumbach's dogs.
