I'm hearing some big claims about this band/album.

Anyone shed some light on the subject?

I'm a fan of a different band called The Throes....

http://www.thethroes.com/cds.html#flowers

All The Flowers Growing in your Mother's Eyes is a classic CD

One of the guys in this band used to be in the Spinart band called Poole.

the throes with the 'all the flowers growing in your mother's eyes' was little more that a god-rock version of r.e.m. (imo anyway)

Yeah and the lyrics were about as explicitly Christian as R.E.M. I actually can't think of a single REM album I like more than All the Flowers...

Bill Campbell wasn't always the best vocalist imo, but I don't think he sounds like Michael Stipe. For one, Michael Stipe has a better voice. There was a Christian based band that had a lead singer with a vocal syle similar to Michael Stipe, and that was Gene Eugene from Adam Again (who is now dead). I actually didn't like most of The Throes work after All the Flowers. Those reviews on that site of theirs, even the crappy ones, are pretty dead on. But to me, All The Flowers... is indisposable. They never topped that album.

I bought this album today and I've literally just given it it's first listen and I'm really impressed (and relieved since it cost me the equivalent of $30 dollars).

Based on a single airing I think we might have a Top Ten record of the year on our hands here.

Just kinda off the top of my head, I'd say "Two Gallants do with Bob Dylan what the White Stripes did with the blues". Of course that might appal some of you, and it's not even a very well thought out description on my part...anyway I'll definately be getting back to you on the subject of Two Gallants after a couple more listens.

Did I mention I was really impressed by this record? Oh, yeah, still worth saying twice.

Oh and it's definately The Throes BY Two Gallants rather than Two Gallants BY The Throes.

I ran across this one yesterday (not to needle ya, but I paid USD $2.98 for it). Still absorbing the details, but it certainly fits alongside my other current favorite, Micah P. Hinson & The Gospel of Progress. An excellent record.

Well I don't normally pay that much but I was desperate to pick it up and I only saw one copy in the whole of Glasgow so I stumped up the cash.

An average CD is nearer the $20-22 mark which I know is still much more expensive than what you guys pay but when your used to it it's just normal and you pay it.

Glad a couple of other people have liked the record. I think it's a excellent LP.

These guys are playing in SD on Weds. and I'm wondering if I should make it out (not too fond of the weeknight excursions).

Anyone seen them live?

I see Pitchfork got their knickers in a twist because Two Gallants covered an old blues track with the 'N' word in it.

'What The Tolls Tell' is quite patchy, I have to admit (some great tracks, some average, some poor), but the first album is still in my Top Ten of the decade.

They weren't the only people to get pissed, Under the Radar gave them an awful review for dropping the N word and being so blatant about it. I kind of laughed at it.
They just played their first SC show in Omaha with Pink Mountaintops.
