This is an amplifier that you MUST hear to believe:
Image

It's only 5 watts and runs about $130 or so.
But it's true tube and sounds like a $5000 custom job. With the single volume and no 2nd channel, it doesn't have the versatility of those other amps, but with pure sound like this and that price tag... who the hell cares?

it sounds good, but i opted for a vox solid state because it sounds better at the low volumes i have to stick to in my apartment.

I don't see anything.

Does it come with a belt clip, or is that sold separately?

Has a single 8" speaker. Too big for that. And this is not a toy. It would be ideal for recording applications. I want one so bad.

I see it now.

I was being a smart ass.

If you've been to the Rock Hall of Fame, they have the tiny, tiny amp that Jimmy Page used for the first couple Zeppelin records. It is so small and weak looking and it is just staggering to imagine what came out of it.

58 Telecaster through a Supro using a decent microphone - Led I
(He switched to Marshall amps and a Les Paul for Led II)

Todd- You're the second musician in a couple of weeks that's talked about this amplifier. Sounds like a single-ended circuit = great TUBE sound.
Plus for the price you can't beat it.
I'd like to hear this baby-

and just to be nerdy, I'll throw in that Jimmy was micing shit close up, at a front distance, and BEHIND the amp and then blending the sounds. And I'm not so sure that he ever recorded much with the Marshall's---they arent much for the studio.

And he brought back that Telecaster for the solo on "Stairway To Heaven" on Zep IV. (He didnt actually have the double neck when he recorded the song. I think that the "Song Remains The Same" may have been the first song actually recorded with the double neck.)

huh, I was unaware that he used a Strat that early (I honestly thought that "In The Evening" was the first recorded use of one for him)

And I'm openly gonna dispute that he only used a Marshall on some of those recs. Especially ANYTHING recorded with that Danelectro. I just cant see that being possible,

Though I could be wrong.

I'm waiting for the Cap'n to step in and help me out here.

That's a good amp for the money, but it sounds a little muddy at all volumes.

Phil, do you have a favorite guitar amp for recording?

Just curious.

http://www.tonetronix.com/Star%20Nova%20Amp.htm

This is what i use on a lot of stuff.

I like using smaller amps to record with. That Mesa Subway Rocket was insane, too bad they don't make it anymore. Can't beat a early 50's Fender Tweed Champ.

I love the Matchless DC 20 (not small), and the Vox AC 30...

It all depends on what kind of tone you're going for, but if you want big bucks tone, the Star Nova is smokin'.

I'll let the Cap'n test drive it if he ever makes it down here, and he can tell you all about it.

Also, doesn't he play slide and pedal steel?

Cause Over the Rhine is looking to replace a guy who did just that...

And our manager's only other client is OTR, and if i played slide decently, i was going to go and be all over that.

I somehow knew that you would mention the AC30 and Matchless'.

Yeah, the Cap'n does play padal steel (ShoBud bitches); never really seen him do a ton of slide guitar though it is def. not out of his range.

We should get him to be in OTR. They just got back from a New Zealand/Down Under tour.

That could have been him.

Hoo boy.

And who doesn't love the boyish cuteness of the Cap'n?

Wow that's Karin Bergquist? That's one of the best pics I have seen of her.
