You'd think he could've easily pulled a #1 debut prior to 3121 but I guess not....

Is this worth picking up for someone who owns no Prince albums? He intrigues the hell out of me since my favorite musician loves him very openly. "Black Sweat" sounds great. Is there more like that?

i can't speak for the new one, but "black sweat" definitely sounds like some of his older, funkier stuff. you can't go wrong with sign 'o' the times, 1999 or controversy.

I don't own any prince records, yet I would buy this album. IMHO, it's shit hot. And if your lover digs it, pick it up so you can try on black sweat in a more appropriate context.

It's my favorite musician, not my lover. Funny though. I think it's still on sale at Best Buy for like $10. Done. thanks for the opinions.

yeh, i was surprised finding that too. musicology sold more than 3121 but landed at No. 3 when it debuted. the chart's funny like that.

but i'm not black!

(yes, it is a good album. yes, it's a shadow of albums like purple rain, 1999, sign o' the times, but it's a good shadow to relax in.)

Unfortunately, it was $13.99, but worth every cent. Upon first listen, I really dig this, even the slower jams. The funky stuff sounds great! Thanks for the recommendations.

i do i do.

probably his best disc since o(+>, but that's not saying much. if "emancipation" was pared down to 1 or even 2 disc/s, then that would beat/match this.

I like it. "Lolita" is some funky shit. And you gotta love his screaming at the end of "The Dance."

I think it kicks ass...a little too scattered to really rank up there with his classics, but some damn fine stuff anyway. Seems to take a few songs into it before it really kicks in for me. If he keeps back on track like this, I'm expecting him to just come out with another amazing album in the not too distant future.

Oh yeah...and speaking of his classics...where's the love for Dirty Mind? That's the one I go back to over and over.

Dirty Mind is my favourite Prince album by far. I used to be a real fan, I think I own or have at least heard everything up until Diamonds and Pearls. I actually haven't heard a single Prince album or song since '91. I don't know why but I just lost interest once he got all symbolistic. How would everyone rank the post-90s albums?

Ok, I'm officially addicted to 3121. God knows how many times I've played it this week.

I don't know what inspired him to make another album this good, but I hope he keeps it up. Also, that Tamar singer he's featuring on his latest album sounds good too - I'm interesting in hearing how her solo album turns out.
