I picked this up in the local CD emporium and hadda have it, especially when I saw it was on Yep Roc. It's kinda country. I can handle that.

Any other good cover finds out there?

Got Social Distortion Live At The Roxy, too. Ring Of Fire, baby.

I don't think I ever bought a CD for the cover, but I have in the past put back CDs that had really ugly covers. It's funny but I had Blonde Redhead's Misery Is A Butterfly in my hands several times before putting it back because of the ugly cover.

I bought this one for its album cover:

I think there's another thread around here that lets y'all know how I feel about this record.

Of course, on the flipside, I HATED this album cover and avoided playing it for a long time, even though it was in heavy rotation when I was a DJ:

I fucking LOVED it once I finally got around to playing it.

I fucking love the Two Dollar Pistols. Havent heard that record yet, though.

John Howie is undoubtedly one of my favorite singers around.

The songs on this disc sound like they've been around a million years. 2DP seemed to have found a lode to mine of classic C&W riffs. Must be students of the genre.

Yeah, he's got a killer voice. I'll trade you a copy of this disc for one of yours...?

I may not buy it, but I will stop and look at anything with a hot girl on it, and twice as long if the girl is naked.

Isn't that the greatest power-pop record of all time? Talk about serendipity.

i think the only albums that i bought more for the covers than the music are the three pin-up/stripper albums that i own. and they're at least LPs, so the picture's worth looking at.

I've done this. The most recent one I can remember is Spain Colored Orange's 'Hopelessly Imcapable of Standing in the Way' ep.

Ha! I remember when that mufugger came out, unreleased Cramps and Damned tracks--I was all *over* that. That 45 Grave tune is a rocker, from what I remember.

I used to do this all the time but I rarely do it now since most of them turned out to be shit. This is the last record I bought that I hadn't heard of the band before and the cover looked good so...

I used to buy albums all the time based on the cover, song titles, graphics, and band photograph. Before the innernets and MTV that's all you had to go on a lot of the time. It's surprising how many good albums I found that way.

Case in point:

Image

Bought that CT album in '77 without ever having heard a note or even read a review. That cover, that band, and a song title like "He's A Whore" - that was all I needed.

These days, CDs are too expensive to gamble on, but even more than that, the usual acoutrements of cool have been appropriated by the terminally uncool. So you just can't tell US from THEM by looking anymore.

I wouldn't buy an album based on the cover but, in some cases, it definitely is enough to make me check them out. I can't recall any specific instances right now, though.
