No, I don't care about the album at all, so this isn't a thread about what it will sound like. What I really want to know is how do David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain have the nerve to call themselves the New York Dolls without Jerry, Arthur, and especially Johnny Thunders being around anymore? It's bad enough when full bands reunite 30 years later to record a new album, but this is only 40% of the original act (and probably really only about 30% once you factor out Johnny).

Oh yeah, jail jail jail jail jail. Yail and Loogar, your input is no longer needed.

Yer gettin it anyway, sonny.

They call themselevs the Dolls because there are several Sylvain Sylvain and Johansen rekkids that Radcliffe owns the only known copies of.

(It's a cash grab)

And, just so you know, things like Syl Sylvain and Johansen (non Buster Poindexter) solo albums are more like FUCKING FEDERAL PRISON

whereas a new Dolls album, if purchased with the intent of enjoying it, is No judge, no jury, execution.

I understand what young VI is saying in his post - it's a common enough sentiment, and one I've been guilty of uttering in my shallow youth. But it's a bullshit stance, posed out of the comfort and safety of inherited affluence.

The question "how dare they reform their own band" is just so unbearably precious. Johansen and Sylvain are part of whatever legacy the Dolls possess. This is their life and their art and their passion. They sacrificed everything for those fleeting 3 years of the Dolls. And now that they finally get their small footnote in the pop culture history books, they're supposed to keep their hands off their own creation so they don't besmirch the band's legacy in the eyes of young suburban malcontents working day jobs in their cubicles? Fuck that.

The common misperception that JAIL is a sound, is just that...a common misperception. Jail is a state of mind...the state of mind you must be ready for if you even THINK about picking up a D. Johansen solo album.

Also, seen any recent pics of him?

<<and probably really only about 30% once you factor out Johnny). >> I'd say 0% without Johnny but am not offended by any of this. It's basically the same thing as 'Rolling Stones' with no Keith Richard if not worse. A difference is Mick and the rest would be in no need of additional wealth or recognition. Any new 'Dolls' activity at least gets their name out there to a new generation and then even if they don't buy the new album (which surely won't sell much) maybe they pick up the two original LPs. For already fans, they benefit from new books, movies/DVDs, (you'd think) remastered LPs...
