Not that I diasagree with the notion that Fox is the GOP propaganda machine, but he and a few other Fox Commentators are starting to distance themselves from the Bush camp. They aren't overly critical, but they aren't spinning everything the same way they used to. Hannity is the only guy I see spinning the same record over and over again.

I actually thought this is a decent move, just way too late. I like the idea of a Presidential Administration bringing in a political commentator/media person to be Press Secretary. If the person is given some leeway to be an independent thinker and overly critical of the president in private, the administration gets a good idea of how the media is going to respond to an issue or statement.

I think this is a misguided choice on the administration's part.

The "base" will be energized (the Faux News viewership). But the "middle 20 percent" that Bush has totally lost will only see this as confirmation of "the problem"... an insular, rigid, duplicitous, arrogant idealogue mentality...

I like tony snow a lot more than I like george bush. I don't know why he'd really be interested in that job, esp. this late in the presidency.

Snow is a conservative with strong republican ties but that doesn't mean that he hasn't been critical of the bush presidency. He's just been critical of different things than you crazy liberal peacenik kooks are critical of.

Haven't followed much about Snow recently, but I used to have to read his column a lot when I was a newspaper researcher in the 90's and man was he a prickly, contemptous, rigid bastard. Used to cringe through nearly every column.

And...Tony Snow's in a band, so...

I take it all back, he's OK in my book.

well i hate bush and fox news as much if not more than anyone here, but it's not unusual for former white house staff members to get in to news editorial nonsense on both sides of the spectrum. obviously fox news is bogus, but the snow thing by itself doesn't really prove anything. and why did you need this to know snow's politics when he wrote speeches for bush v1.0?

This is a clever move by Bush. Before David Gregory and Helen Thomas are able to lob intrusive questions at the administration, they will be lulled to sleep by the drone of Snow's voice.

i don't think it will make much difference. who actually watches the press briefings? he's going to have to stonewall like a motherfucker, just like mcclellan. and the people in the press corps know for a fact that he knows better.

His people do have to attone for James Buchanan, anyway. Let him be president.
