Really jealous of the Japanese. I want to go grad school with Columbia University Teacher College's Tokyo Camps, but I've never taken any Japanese before. I have kind of a thing for languages though so I bet if I got into it intensively it wouldn't be too much of a problem. I love Japan.
The only major problem is the kanji. Even at this early stage, they're all starting to have common or similar bits, so it can be easy to confuse them. And I find that some of the ones we've had to learn when the textbook covers certain topics aren't used that often afterwards, so I tend to forget them.
If you're jealous of me though, you'll hate my brother - he's in his sixth year of it now
btw, how long have you been doing the French for? Once I finish uni I plan on starting it over again and maybe take some TAFE (kinda like community college) classes
I don't know what you're talking about when you say kanji. I don't know anything about Japanese besides the standard basic phrases that people know (origato, konnichiwa) and "witashiwa televisio mimas" or "mimashta" if i was talking past tense.
I've been taking French for 10 years. I'll be starting my eleventh this fall, so by now it's pretty damn rocking. I get complimented by French people all the time for how I don't have an accent at all and for how good it is. Not to be a braggart, but it's the truth. And I love that I'm finally at a level like that. I remember being in sixth grade and knowing nothing about the language. It's just great to have something in life where you can legitimately see and feel progress.
