I don't know if I missed the whining about crappy weather thread, as I was snowed in at my boyfriend's house (sans internet) yesterday. We got 16 inches of snow and now it is starting again (little tiny flakes, not the huge blizzardy windy crap we had the last three days). I had to dig for 25 minutes to get my car out so I could go to work, where I have had exactly 8 customers the entire week. My fantastic neighbor was kind enough to shovel both my back and front walks, as well as the 18 inches of snow drifted over my side of the driveway! What a hero! As a result, I will be knitting and downloading music for my new iPod (late Xmas gift from the father). I want some good winter music suggestions. I would be especially interested in warm-weather people's take on winter music, but don't be afraid to suggest if you are also under a foot of snow. Really, I just need some attention, as this weather makes me feel isolated.

Cheer up, Sad Clown. Snow is great, and it already sounds like it's building character. That can't be bad. I wish I could pity you, but the sub-degree temperatures here in MN won't permit me. In the meantime, the following list might help warm those bones.

Dick Dale & his Del-Tones - Checkered Flag
King Tubby - Introducing Scientist
Jan & Dean - Drag City
Low - One More Reason To Forget
Fela Ransome-Kuti and The Africa 70 - Alijon-Jon-Ki-Jon
Nina Simone - It Is Finished
Serge Gainsbourg - Mon Legionaire
Dick Dale & his Del-Tones - Checkered Flag
Flamin' Groovies - Shake Some Action
(smog) - supper

ill trade cold weather for snow anyday. which makes living in the northwest territories great, because its not far off from being a desert here with the small amount of precipitation we get. so if you can take -30 celsius, but not huge amounts of snow, move here.

I don't mind the rain in LA, what bothers me is people DON'T KNOW HOW TO DRIVE in the rain. They completely freak out & it's impossible to get anywhere without stupid idiots on the road!

Totally! I love this rain. It comforts me like a big, fat down comforter.

Cuddling in a down comforter is a lovely thing at the end of a winter day.

Ames is a few hours away. Let's say that Des Moines (the capital) is directly in the middle of the state (which it basically is, I think). Ames is about 30 miles north on I-35. Iowa City is about 140 miles straight east on I-80. Just a little less than 2 hours with the stop at the truckstop with free ice cream sandwiches. Where are you playing in Iowa City, Gabe's?

it's the stuff that has fallen a total of 325 inches so far this year in our mountains (which incidently are 20 minutes from my door). i can tolerate any dominant religion (mormon) if they somehow tell God to dump this much snow at our doorstep! Nothing like snowboarding in powder up to your waist!  :drink: :rawk:  :drumnugene:

Bitches don't need a down comforter when they're cuddling adjacent me. I am warmth. Or, maybe it's just the body-hair.

Whatever.

In memory of Shawna Westerdale... Who's not dead, but just with whom I only had one night, three years ago.

Freudian slip, pre-edit? No.

Probably, just trying to keep it from showing up on Google, in case the divine Ms W of Pewaukee (formerly, at least) ever Googled herself, before a date, to make sure nothing incriminating was out there.

But, whatever. She was glamour itself.

It's a regular tit-for-tat. Good (non-coca-based) powder, pissy alcohol.

I would prefer the former, where I live, since I really need to encourage myself to greater physical activity. Snowboarding, I'd be in.

Beside that, Evanston, WY, is apparently only an hour's drive away (if you break the law). But, going eighty never killed anyone... Crashing killed some people, and sometimes at high-speed, but never high-speed alone.

I believe The Green Room, that's where we played last time. We played some outdoor thing in Des Moines too, maybe we'll play there again soon. Should get itineraries sometime this week, and i'll keep you posted if you want guest listed.

Bingo. What it really takes to enjoy/bear cold weather is snow. Cold and just cold sans snow (like in most of the South) is uber-depressing. The best days are the ones where you end up in a comfy warm bed after a long day of skiing.
