I like my SUV as well nor make excuses for it either. Luckily for me, it's not a gas guzzler. I purposely bought one with a 4 cylinder engine because I drive so much and sit in traffic quite a lot. The fact that I have to load a wheelchair for my mom everytime she goes out, makes it much easier for me and was one of the reasons why I chose it.

When I had my other SUV with a 4WD, it was utilized for camping, off-roading and all those weekend activities that lotsa people like to do. I owned that truck for 13 years, BEFORE it ever became "fashionable" to own an SUV. Unfortunately, I don't have much time to do those things anymore and chose a non-4WD vehicle this time around.

Love the looks and utility of an Suv. Hate the gas mileage. I just can;t balance out getting 12 miles to the gallon. Maybe I could have in 1998 when gas price in Georgia were like 59 cents/gallon.

I've always had a passionate hatred of SUVs. I've always said that if you live some place in the mountains or where it snows a lot, it's perfectly understandable to own one. I also understand families of four or more owning them, they're safer and about the size of minivans so it makes sense.

The thing that gets me here in Indianapolis is all of these single people who by them because "they like to sit up high." Honestly, that is the primary reason I've heard for buying one. They are an obstruction to other drivers on the road (can't see stoplights ahead of me, stopping traffic, etc.), they are an obstruction in the parking lot (I have to back all the way out of a parking spot before I can see if any traffic is coming and feel like I'm going to be broadsided nearly everytime) and the people that drive them have bigger blind spots which makes them worse drivers as a whole. Most people I know that own them do not need them and only have them so they can see over all of the little cars whose view they are blocking. If I had my way, SUVs would be limited to areas that actually needed them.

Just like everything else, whenever you try to paint with a broad brush, you fuck up. I don't own an SUV, but my next ride will most definitely be one or even a large bore Truckster of some kind. Why? I don't live near mountains, don't go offroading, don't work in construction, so its not like I'm hauling a bunch of shit around. And I'm single. The fact remains that I fit more comfortably in an SUV, being a large individual and all.

I drive a Maxima (it was cheap and reliable) and it doesn't get much better than around 22mpg highway miles anyway, so it's not as if I'm doing much for the environment anyway (I don't suppose that's possible considering I put 15,000 miles on it since June.

So, you know, there're a lot of reasons for driving an SUV. More FOR than AGAINST as far as I can see.
