Anyone read this?

I recieved it as a late Christmas gift, and it is fucking astonishing. You never know if it's pure bullshit or pure truth, but like Bill Clinton, it probably don't matter, cause there's not a lick of difference between the two.

He writes stuff like this about Roy Orbison "He was now singing his compositions in three or four octaves that made you want to drive your car over a cliff, He sang like a professional criminal"

He talks about the fear of living under the constant threat of nuclear oblivion and about he was more interested in The Galveston Floods, the sinking of the Titanic and the turn of the century than contemporary culture, and of course his time in NYC at the beginning of hs career.

Its like a Beat book about Mr. Zimmerman, and it is good.

i also enjoyed it - wish I had the rest of the info. I also liked the story about him visiting Woody Guthrie and his various roommates. Sounded like a fascinating time/place to live.

I thoroughly enjoyed all of it.
His ostensibly hot/cold relationship with Daniel Lanois during the making of 'Oh Mercy' while in the big 'NO' was especially interesting.
I liked all of Bob's inadvertent 'book recommedations' as well.

I'll be buying this with a BN giftcard I got from Christmas. I'm very much looking forward to it. I don't imagine I'll learn much more about Bob but it should be interesting either way.

Read the first chapter on Christmas Day and love love love it. Only problem is I simply have no time these days to delve further. COuld end up being my favorite Christmas gift of the year.

I was hesitant and worried about how he'd do writing prose, but it's rich and straighforward; you never get the sense he's trying to impress you with the words. He realizes the stories themselves are enough and there's no need to dress them up all fancy-like.

Can't wait for the next edition - if there is one forthcoming.
