flip flops are perfectly legit. so i am. a pair of black flip flops. all black. nothing else. that, a man can wear.

like this, but even plainer. none of that little thatched pattern on the strap or even a logo on the foot. these are 2 euro generic flip flops

Havianas. They've pretty much reached saturation point around here. The best lazy-shoe ever for rocking up to uni on warm days with a denim skirt or jeans.

But you're right, they have to be fairly plain, especially on the straps. This: Image is not cool.

Patterns on the base can be ok, as long as they're not resort-style prints.

And you guys get to laugh at us calling them thongs.

Mandals, however, are a big :nono:

i concur. Despite the extra dough, havianas are the shit.

I'm all for girls wearing thongs with long jeans, but it just annoys me when guys do it.

guys, guys, and i use that term with some reservation, you're arguing about the appropriateness of wearing sandals as a man. let's just agree that you'll all hope to find DDT in the scrambled eggs and your swimmers will find little purchase, and we'll all be better off. More craftsman catalogs and less dr phil, ladies, or the terrorists have won.

Don't wear than to attract the ladies. Wear them when I'm doing yardwork, walking the dog in the woods or climbing the cable trail on the mountain at the local state park. Not every footwear involves fashion or requires another's approval.

I didn't where I am today, Reggie, by arguing the appropriateness of wearing sandals as a man

Dude, you are one serious snob. Thank God you're funny and smart, I gotta say, so you make it work.

There are places on the planet other than Florida you know.

Try wearing those climbing the White Mountains, see how far you get.

Also, I could spot a not-from-Maine tourist before he even got off the runway.

Why would you wear sandals to go hiking? I'd think dirt and pebbles would be a major nuisance vs wearing proper hiking shoes/boots.

The velcro strapped sandals are very good for trail hiking. Not good for bush hiking.

You wear sandals doing yardwork and hiking? Granted, I grew up on a farm, and the Australian bush is probably a lot more nasty than Maine forests in terms of snakes and spiders, but I'd be seriously scared about losing a toe or something.

The dangerous things in northern Maine woods are things like black bears and Moose. Meaning, snakes, spiders and gators are not a problem. I hike on trails behind my house. They're designed to be walking trails, it's not like they're 100 miles deep into Mirkwood or anything.

If I do serious hiking I wear these things called hiking boots, which are designed for hiking, even.

Not sure about the rest of the country, but flip flops are huge in the southeast. Most people wear Rainbows religiously. I am not one of them, however I do own a couple pair of flip flops that I wear in the summer.

The mandal is a useful walking item. Not beachwear or fashion statement. But I've never called it a mandal until this thread. That kind of thing was just called a birkenstock for years.

Spoon don't pimp.
