I wasn't going out of my way to look for this, but Best Buy had it for $12, so I thought what the hell, I can always sell it for close to what I paid.

I've listened to it a couple of times, and I'm disappointed in their "progress" from their last disc. On the contrary, it seems as though they are shooting for the caveman audience. Basic, sing-songy rhymes permeate the 2 disc set. The guitarist seems like the only person who's allowed to stretch his legs (and John does come up with some killer solos and tones). Oh, sure, Flea gets to funk it up a bit, but it's not enough to save the project.

As a drummer, I listen closely to Chad, and he's phoning in his performance, imo. No new fills and no energy, just blah. Seems as if the band told him to lay back and let the songs speak, but they ain't sayin' much.

It should be noted here that I've been a fan since their first disc, and I really root for them when they have a new release, but it's getting old.

*sigh* Oh, well.

I wasnt expecting much from their live spot on SNL, but after the very bland, pedestrian intro, I actually dug the song and thought they put quite a bit of energy into it, for what its worth. I mean, they are old.

If they're so old, why are they pandering to the kiddies?

Grow up, Peppers.

This is exactly what I expected of them. Thanks for the review, now I won't even bother listening to this via a free download.

Old? Hardly. There's guys way older than the Chili Peppers who rock out way harder. Have you seen Iggy Pop or Nick Cave or Tex Perkins perform these days? Those old dudes BRING THE ROCK. :rawk: :rawk: :rockbanana: :rockbanana: :domokun:

i mean, you're right. they're treading water. rick rubin's production is mad stale and doesn't push them in any way. kiedis is doing the same old shit.

the only reason to listen to this is if you are a fanboy or a big fan of frusciante and flea. they put together some sick grooves and go pretty out there on certain tracks. it's not remarkable, it's just some more solid songs from the chilis. i think they still have the potential to release another great album, maybe in like 10 years. there will be a chili rebirth in like 2017, watch.

I've only done two listens so far, but it sounds like they've died and gone to Jack Johnson Hell.

Nice! As Athony might say, "Yeah.... Ah, yeah."

Are you kidding me? This has been on constantly throughout the last couple of weeks for me. Yeah, it's a lot of the same old stuff, nothing reinvented here. But there's only four or five tracks total on this set that I don't care for.

Frusciante is fucking brilliant on this album, and Kiedis sounds better as he's gotten older. Flea is as good as always.

Chad Smith I can agree with as far as the original posts goes. He does seem pretty lax, but did you see his old ass in the photos in the liner notes? Guy's getting up there.

I always feel like this band could be awesome with a different singer. Even on their old stuff, I think Kiedis is mostly embarassing.

I was listening to this stuff last night, and Smith makes a glaring error on a fill- I can't believe they left it in. He comes back in on time, but, what a bobble.

I'll see if I can find it again.

My brother loves this album and has been playing in his car nonstop for the past week. He actually thinks that it might be one of the best albums they've ever made.
