Alright for anyone who's remotely interested or just feels like making fun of me, here goes... let the sinking of the topic begin!

According to a postcard posted by Roger Taylor on their site:
"Things have really been going great over the last few weeks -- the new songs have been going from strength to strength since returning to London in January. We now have around 15 pieces of music that we are working up to full potential with producer Michael Patterson; we will hone these down to 12 songs for the album. The record will be in some ways an homage to our roots as a band, more direct and a return to our dance and 'new wave' origins-- and the fact that we have been touring as a five piece band again over the last 3 years has made the whole process a more natural and inspiring experience. It has brought us all to something that feels like a very positive and special moment in time. We are already on the final stages of recording and hope to be mixing by April. If all goes to plan, this will be followed by a first record at radio by early summer...."

Having been a fan for a while now, I realize that "Duran time" is not like normal time, and in fact, I'll be lucky if I see a release by next summer (2007). I do love my boys though....

In more funny news, Q Magazine has voted Duran Duran's "Thank You" as the worst album of all time. It's pretty damn horrible, I'll admit, but there are a couple of songs on there that are okay. Here's the rest of the list:

Lets swap that Westlife album with Duran Duran for a start.

And Sporty spice's album was a dud. I don't think so.

That last album of theirs was actually kind of fun but I seem to remember reading it barely sold 250,000 in the states...which is better than what Tears for Fears' "comeback" record did that year. I think that one barely broke 90,000.

As the self-proclaimed DD supporter on the board, I will be the first to admit that Duran's popularity is not what it used to be, and they certainly don't make a lot of wise business decisions to help in that endeavor. They were an innovative band in the late 70s/early 80s, popular beyond all belief in the mid 80s, and feel into AC hell in the early 90s. I will tell you that they still put on a hell of a show, even if I do have to elbow the 37 year old housefraus with John Taylor tattoos, clinging to their goddamn fedora hats and wearing their best Torrid gear, next to me to get front and center.

Ouch. It's especially hurtful when you consider the crap Robyn Hitchcock was releasing at the same time.

I don't care, I still think that the majority of that Tears For Fears record is aces.

I'm excited to hear about the prospect of a new album with all of the original members. It's encouraging to hear them say that they're considering going back to their "new wave roots".

A few days ago I happened upon DD's video for "White Lines" on TV. I had never seen it before and thought it was done pretty well. Also, I remember that their version of "Lay Lady Lay" on the Thank You album is pretty great.

more geekiness, but it is music-related... interesting commentary anyway. Nick Rhodes and John Taylor interviewed for a Guardian UK podcast re: their comp album called "Only After Dark." They talk about some of their own personal influences, the advent of the synth, being labeled a teenybopper band, meeting your musical heroes, etc., etc.

However, as anyone here who has met me knows: I don't have a mullet, I don't wear a fedora hat, I don't have any Duran-related body art, I don't wear white Capezios, I don't even own a freaking concert t-shirt and I don't have a Duran Duran ringtone on my cell phone. It's all about the music, man!!!!!
