Funny that... reminds me of when I was living with my then-fiance in NC, and when my parents came to visit, they had to stay in a hotel instead of acknowledging that we shared a bed together in our rental house. That was so much my mom's doing because I don't think my dad really gave a shit.

I also endorse living with someone before marriage. It definitely is an eye opener as far as people's idiosyncrasies are concerned. I'm definitely messier than my husband (he's a clean freak), so that can be kind of a drag at times... always being reminded about my "little piles" of stuff I leave around the house. But on the plus side, if he has two espressos, he'll clean the entire house on his own. I'm quite lucky, actually.

I've never lived with a girlfriend and I haven't had a roomate since college. I've been living alone for about 6 years and like it a lot.

It looks like my girlfriend and I will be moving in together in the not too distant future...it'll be interesting to see how that works out.

Do you all really think that these idosyncracies are necessary to know about prior to marriage. As in, is it really justified to end a committment over idosyncracies? If so, then don't you think it is possible to learn about those before getting married or without living together. It would seem that, although there are always surprises, that you may not actually know someone well enough to get married if the idiosyncracies that arise in marriage are enough to lead to separation or divorce...
