My mother not only did this but she continued to clean with her. If they were paying her by the hour I guess maybe I could understand this but I don't think that they were.

In Brazil, I've been told that maids commonly take on additional duties for the man on the house. This of course can distort the hiring criteria. The mother of a friend of mine said that when she was hiring their maid she had no idea whether she could clean or not, but she knew that she was butt ugly which is what she was looking for in their maid.

Anybody here have a maid?
