The Strokes + Nigel Godrich

Then let's see how they really sound, up there, without all the assistance.

Prince + Dan the Automator

I think they'd come up with something good.

I's like to see U2 work with either Brendan O'Brian or Rick Rubin. Its time for them to mix it up and get off the Eno-teet for chrissakes.

I'd also like to see a big time hiphop producer (say Dr. Dre) work with an established rock act (so there's no pressure to try and break the band) just to see what they could do working in that medium.

Why do you dig O'Brien? Is it a Pearl Jam thing?

Mitchell Froom with just about anybody - Calexico, Centro-matic, Josh Rouse, Spoon.

Cevin Key of Skinny Puppy mentioned in an interview a few years ago that he wanted Dr. Dre to produce one of his projects at some point. Seeing a Skinny Puppy album with the words "Produced by Dr. Dre" in the liner notes would just blow my mind.

I really want Franz Ferdinand to get John Leckie in and really mine that 'Outsiders' vibe which to me was quite reminisent of the stuff Leckie did with Simple Minds back in '79/'80.

Wow.

Personally, I'm not sure Eno holds the cache that he used to. What was the last really cool Eno-produced record? I'm not keen on the Paul Simon thing...

That's what I thought at first, but then I remembered that he produced the James albums Laid (1993) and Millionaires (1999).

The new Paul Simon is a grower. Give it time.

I endorse both of these ideas.

good, not great.

Achtung is great because it was a risk. Laid and Millionaires was a rehashing of those production values but with lesser songs. Even though he broke new ground with Achtung, his work with James was safe. It was the Eno sound proven to make money.

I was going to say Wrecking Ball but that was Lanois.

I concur. I think if Eno works with Franz, bad things could happen (I see FF making a sort of X&Y mish mash with Eno at the helm).

FF and Albini? Maybe...?

Dr Dre worked on NIN: the Fragile's "Even Deeper".

Unkle: Psyence Fiction also saw some interesting collaborations namely DJ Shadow and Thom Yorke.

Flood working with the Killers looks to be interesting.

Dangermouse attached to anything is always interesting with Demon Days being the true direction pop/mainsteam music should be heading.

My personal pick would be Kayne West and Kaada producing each other. That would be intense.

I think it would also be interesting to see the Roots do a whole album with DJ Shadow.

I don't think Thom Yorke should work with anyone as creative as DJ Shadow. He's fine with Godrich; someone to just give him a nudge every now and then, and work on the sound, rather than the ideas.
