A friend of mine is trying to get a job within a small company and she had two interviews, one with the manager and one with the director. During the manager's interview, she did really well and they hit it off. By the end of the interview, she was guaranteed an interview with the director. When the director's interview rolled around, she froze up and stumbled over her answers a bit, which leaves her worried that he will think less of her.

I've never sent a follow-up letter to an interview anyway, so I'm no help. You obner folks that are good at keeping jobs/interviewing, what do you suggest? Send a f/up letter to the director and explain herself a bit (i.e., I was nervous, Here's a more thorough answer, etc.) or talk to the manager and explain that she was nervous with the director, etc. Other suggestions?

What say you?

Thanks.

I'd still send one...

Dont mention being nervous in the previous interview....It IS possible that the director didnt notice it as much as your freind did...

if she does want to broach it, she should kind of just go over her answers with more clarity as a 'refresher' for the director to their interview, rather then trying to fix mistakes which may not have been there at all.

but so many people avoid the thank you letter, and it does help.

^good advice. i say write it as a clarifier on questions she doesn't feel she answered well, not an apology per se.

Definitely send a thank you note to the director...and tell your friend to forget all about the nervousness thing. As Nothingface said, it is entirely possible that the Director had a totally different opinion of how the interview went.

The note can be closed with a line like, "If you any follow up questions for me, I can always be reached at..."

I go with Gordo. Send a letter thanking the director for "your time." Absolutely DO NOT apologize for being nervous or incomplete answers... this signals a needy, sticky peronality that wouldn't be good to work with. Simply say at the end "I'd welcome talking with you again about our common interests.." like that.
