for the past two weeks i've been hitting the sack at about dawn every morning. Just staying up, listening to music, watching tv, playing guitar, piano, whatever. I can't shake it.

Anyone else ever been in a similar predicament?

Yeah, most of my life. The only problem is once the sun comes up I'm awake again.

I've been 2-4 hours of sleep a night since about 6th grade.

on the plus side, it feels like i get alot accomplished. But then on the other hand, all i've got to show for it is a b.s. in music education, so maybe the lack of sleep alters perceptions....

That's very re-assuring...

I have however been at least vaguely productive nocturnally. Wrote a few decent songs, getting school work done, etc. And i've always been a night person, but now its getting out of hand.

I have the same problem as you - once the sun starts coming up i can't get to sleep.

I always wake up one minute before my alarm goes off at 5:30. Which is weird because the rest of my day is chaos.

On the weekend, I don't wake up like this. My subconscious is smarter than I am.

I wake up at 11:57 am every morning, without fail.

I think I'm naturally a night-owl, but that's all relative. An old friend of mine (a musician) is on a nearly completely reversed schedule. He goes to bed around 8am, even 10am.

My roommate too (another musician) it on a really late schedule. We were both saying the other day how it seems more natural to work on music at night.

With my job I have to get up at 7:30 during the week. I need at least between 7-10 hours sleep so on a work night I have to get to bed around 12:30 or I'm a total wreck the next day.

But truth be told, I do like staying up a little. If I had my way I'd be up till about 1:30 or 2am --- then get up around 10am.

In college I couldn't get to bed before 3:30 it seemed. Even when I had early classes, I just couldn't do it. I still struggle getting to bed at a decent hour now even while working.

this is also my ideal schedule. i currently get up at 7 and go to sleep around midnight. and i always spend what seems like way too long trying to fall asleep and way too long trying to wake up.

last night, though, after a weekend in which i went to sleep very late both nights, i took a melatonin nearly an hour before going to bed and slept terrifically. there was no trouble falling asleep and no trouble waking up.
