and Matsui being 7th is hardly the Yankee fans imposing their will.

then what is it? because it's certainly not that he's deserving.

the fact that he is 7th, in the big picture means he is 4 injuries away from being a starter.....consdidering he will be out to September the earliest, he wont be a managers choice either...

for the most part, it is the 'average' fans voting for their hometown favorite, or in Matsui's or Ichiro's stance, having a whole country backing em....

if Matsui was in the top 3, or leading all voters, then you could say, their was some major 'will' being pushed on em....

but not at 7th.

Does it really work that way? I thought the manager got to pick the starter if the top vote-getter was injured.

Sabathia, baby!!!!!! (EDIT: will make it, but I'd expect Verlander or Contreras to get the start)

You bring up one player off an entire ballot to prove your point?

He's been hurt for a month now and won't be healthy for the All-Star Game. Yankee fans have too much power. This needs to be an electoral process, not popular vote!

Dude, its just an All Star Game--an exibition at that. Give the fans what they want already.

Its not like the game counts for anything.

Oh. Yeah. I guess it does.

Stupid baseball.

Making the All-star game the deciding factor in who gets home field advantage for the series was one of the biggest mistakes ever made by Selig and the owners. Not that it really cost the Cardinals the year they were swept by the Red Sox, but having the best record out of both teams should still be the deciding factor.

If they're going to make that the deciding factor, then they cannot let the fans vote.

are these minor league teams for the sox and yanks? i've never heard of them.

I didn't know much about Lowell and Loretta when they were traded to the Red Sox, but damn if they haven't been great so far.
