I notice the most recent film in the Top 25 was 1980...

...I have never seen 'The Bicycle Thief'

the fact that the top 100 list ends at 1980 is very significant.
and k, please see the bicycle thief. it's incredibly moving.

and, once more with feeling, i will tout the scorcese documentary my voyage to italy.
if you a scorsese fan at all you really need to see this. he discusses and shows clips from the great italian cinema that influenced his work. you'll see so much of where he comes from. it's fascinating.
in fear of this becoming an incessant todd/shrimpboat post i will try to never mention this documentary again

Fucking Harvey Weinstein.

I hate this f-n dude..He is a butcher when it comes to foreign films..Cutting them down to fit his idea of how the flick should be seen by the american audiance..

Have you read Down and Dirty Pictures?

I read it a few months ago and would recommend it if you are interested in the rise of 90's indie films. I didn't know how much of a prick Weinstein was until I read this (and Robert Redford as well, for that matter).

redford? I guess I should've known that, but my unyielding love of all things Newman has blinded me to this.

There's nothing on IMDB about a Seven Samuri remake. Oceans 13 is however in pre production  Speaking of Kurosawa, Turner Classic has a series where they invite guest programmers to show thier 4 favorite films. Mia Farrow picked Rashomon as part of her 4 & it airs Thursday the 15th at 8pm.

Soon as Hockey ends I'll be back to 3 rentals a week. I've been trying to get thru as many as the Criterion DVD's my library has. Speaking of which I found this blog. This guy Netflixed the entire collection in order & then is his words:

Pretty interesting.

I didn't realize Harvey was chopping foreign flix. Chung King Express wasn't cut & Miramax is selling it for about $10 which for a foreign film is an absolute steal. I can't tell with The Best of Youth there's 6 different running times & the US version seems to land in the middle. But it sold for cheap. Granted this is post a Harvey Miramax.

Yeah, hockey has been keeping me pretty busy as well. And having the Center Ice package the last season, I didn't watch anything but hockey..And few episodes of the office.

There was a big stink with House of Flying Daggers or Hero and some of it getting chopped and the director was furious and said he wouldn't license any more flicks to them. Some people call them Miramaxe.
