For telescope and discostu, who expressed interest, and the rest of you. Very difficult to separate any one track on these albums, but I try.

Loka are a psych-jazz collective based in Liverpool sharing members with Super Numeri (Snap Ant). Very much zoned in on an Electric Miles tip. Also recommended if you like Cinematic Orchestra and such.

Loka "Meet Dad" from Fire Shepherds

Super Numeri are a psych-rock collective also based in Liverpool. Wholly sprawling but always focused and minimal. Robust and slow-driving rhythms bounded by ambient atmospherics. Recorded stunningly. Ethereal but grounded. Psych rock meets hip-hop in a strange place. Note 74 year-old harpist, Stan Ambrose.

Also, completing this triumvirate is the real deal superstar Pop Levi, central member of Super Numeri, and the impetus for the establishment of Counter Records, whose first release will be the "Blue Honey" 10"/CDEP in August. The second coming of Marc Bolan. Psych-pop existing somewhere between T. Rex, Prince, Syd Barrett, and Streisland.

Sweet. And here I was just thinking how I've been out of the loop with this kind of stuff since I quit the record shop.

Yippy!

Gracias.

Called "The Return to Form Black Magick Party", and it's a dense mind-fucker, heart-warmer.

Nice. Thanks Jonathan; I'm downloading the Loka track now.

I can officially recommend Super Numeri. It's sprawling, but it can be intense at points. Good if you're jonesing for something without the trappings of your typical indie-pop group.

He'll be back in LA by next week. He's moving there and playing these shows:

Jun 7 2006 8:00P Club Lipstick @ Star Shoes
Jun 8 2006 9:00P Spaceland
Jun 10 2006 8:00P Kaleidoscope @ The Hear Gallery
Jun 18 2006 9:00P Club Jinx @ The Mountain Bar
Jun 27 2006 8:00P Cinespace

Pop might make out with you. I had some special moments with him over the weekend.

Bump.

Hey Ishy, really liked both the Loka and Super Numeri, especially the latter. Have yet to listen to your man Levi, but the Bolan comparision pretty much guarantees melikey from me.

Thanks. I'll probably pick up the Super Numeri asap. Sweet sounds.

I didn't realise Pop Levi was connected to Loka and Super Numeri - I've heard his name mentioned but not heard anything.

Bump.

So I just finished listening to both Super Numeria and Loka (picked them up yesterday). Very cool indeed. Guess the Ninjas are making a move in a slightly new direction, eh?

Really great stuff. Didn't even realize they were on N.T. till I showed up at the record store. Soundscapes had them filed under "electronic" but I informed the in-house psych-jam guru about them (no one had really heard about them) and maybe they'll get put in the psych section.

Thanks again for the 411. Still gotta listen to Mr. Levi. :)

Awesome. I'm glad you picked those up and are glad about it.

New direction? Really? Maybe with the Super Numeri album, but definitely not with Loka. That's instrumental Ninja Tune defined. The Super Numeri album, to me, totally fits in with the expectations of the label, maybe without quite sounding like it. It's risky. Just like the early and best stuff.

I think we classified that shit in electronic for a reason. Nobody knows to look for us outside of electronic. Doesn't Soundscapes have a Ninja Tune section?

Pop Levi will have an EP out this summer. Until then, seek out clips and California performances.
