lol, the only reason I wouldn't is because Comcast makes too much money as it is.....of course if you aren't using Comcast then great!! (Actually as much as I hate Comcast the former Bells and other telcos are probably worse to have to deal with)

As for VOIP itself, my wife and I have been using it without problems for 2 years now - works great - only concerns are 911 service and no phone if you have an internet or power outage. (Our VOIP service differs slightly and I won't get into it here but we don't have those same problems thankfully)

911 service might suck or be non-existent, causing your house to burn.

Concurrent Internet usage may make your phone useless, or vice-versa.

I used Skype a bunch this past year while doing all kinds of things online. Never once had a problem with packet loss, etc.

Also, landline phone? Wtf?

they lie, it works fine until your power goes out and then it doesnt work.

also you cant have a monitored alarm system without an actual phone line, thats the clincher for my wife, since shes home a lot with the kids

my normal phone doesn't work if the power goes out.
and i don't have an alarm stystem . . . i live in philadelphia . .. what would i need an alarm system for?

911 is non existent on my service. Glad to hear yours works. We had to use it last week because the baby pulled a chair over on her head, gave herself a concussion and was vomitting, and had to take her to the hospital. She's fine now. Luckily we have cell phones to make the call.

Concurrent internet usage renders phone worthless, not useless. Even looking at text pages. Downloading music is a whole nother realm of uselessness.

Tivo version 1 boxes that use a phone line to dial out do not work on voip. We have the most basic of phone lines to accomdate our tivo.
