I know nothing about him really besides a little bit and the fact he stayed in the Chelsea Hotel.

Anyway, I got this "Songs of Leonard Cohen" collection with

1.Suzanne
2.Master Song
3.Winter Lady
4.The Stranger Song
5.Sisters of Mercy
6.So Long, Marianne
7.Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye
8.Stories of the Street
9. Teachers
10.One of Us Cannot Be Wrong

I haven't researched it at all...I've been waiting a long time to hear Lenny and I really dig on this "album."

Leonard Cohen is awesome - he was a poet before he sung, and his songs are basically poems set to music. His half sings half speaks, so in a way it even sounds like a performance. He still wrote some decent songs to back it up too.

This is his best album:

It has 'Avalanche', 'Famous Blue Raincoat' and 'Dress Rehearsal Rag' on. Its quite a dark record, but Cohen always tempers his serious side with humour.

Oh and LC's song 'Chelsea Hotel No2 is great too btw

He commeth from Montreal
He's a Jew
He's a Buddhist
He sings a lot about sex and religion
People often say he can't sing no good

I used to walk by his old house in Montreal like a pilgrim.

I imagine this will tell you a lot of what you need to know.

When I was a kid, I thought he looked like Leonard Nimoy.

His girlfriend is hot and he's probably gotten more poet-tang than all of us put together.

Also the album he did with Phil Spector can MESS U UP when you're stoned.

I saw a CBC documentary recently in which they tracked down Suzanne from the song to find out whatever happened to her. She's around 60, has lived a Bohemain lifestyle forever, most recently she lives in her car, in L.A. and Leonard won't return her phone calls.

My introduction to Leonard came from the movie 'Pump Up The Volume' with his song, 'Everybody Knows'....Heh heh... So i bought a tape of his, and the rest didnt take with me.....

I was so obsessed with that movie, thatin college, I opened each radio show with it as well...

I'm pretty sure this is an album, not a comp. It's considered his debut.

I like L. Cohen, but the more I hear of his stuff, the less enamored I am with it. I've got his first four studio albums (through New Skin), and they're all of nearly equal quality, but I guess I'd agree with splates about Love & Hate being the best. I love "Diamonds in the Mine".

I'm one of those people. Although I do think that he has written some incredible songs. I just prefer when other people sing them.

"bad" and "no vocal range" aren't always the same.

He has no vocal range, but damn is it a great voice.

Jennifer Warnes - Famous Blue Raincoat is excellent, if his voice isn't your cup-o-tea.

His voice is great, especially when he really pushes it which doesn't happen often.

Suzanne gives me the chills
SO Long Marianne makes me sad bc it's my mom's name.

I love him and have gotten really into him lately.

These are by far my favourite two songs of his, and will always be sentimentally important. So romantic.

In the late 90's he did a year of silent meditation in a Zen monastery on Mount Baldy, in the smoggy mountains just east of Los Angeles.

He returned to release what I thought was one of his best collections in 2001, Ten New Songs. It got little respect. Nice approachable, almont continental cabaret folk rock.

I always thought that there wouldn't be a Nick Cave with Leonard Cohen.

Thanks. I'll have to find a copy of that. kd lang's version of Hallelujah sends shivers down my spine...it's that good.

Even though Birthday Party is not like Cohen, Cohen songs like "Hey That's No Way To Say Goodbye" and "The Stranger Song" are absolute templates for Cave's solo work.

Oh, and he repeatedly boned Rebecca DeMornay.

(So did Harry Dean Stanton. Evidently she's got a "daddy" thing.)
