Ugh, my head is still vibrating like a Tibetan singing bowl and it's 10:30 am. Slow moving this morning.
The show was fucking amazing. I gotta admit, I was up front for the whole thing. The sound was off a bit, as when Mark Lanegan sang, I could barely hear him (but then again, maybe that's because I was so close to the front). I tried to snag a setlist from the stage, but the girl next to me was quicker, so unfortunately, I can't recount song by song... they did do the Crazy cover during the encore, they did Aerosmith's Dream On, they did Black is the Color, they did a lot of stuff off the latest album (distinctly remember I'm Ready, Bonnie Brae, There's Been an Accident, Forty Dollars, Candy Cane Crawls, Underneath the Waves, My Time has Come, and Powder Burns). Greg seemed quite taken with the crowd, and very appreciative of the positive response. They're playing again tonight.
Mr. Dulli seemed very coherent and straight, so guess that's working out for him. And e-stone, even though I thought I looked quite fetching last night, he did not hit on me, ha ha! Clearly the man is sober!
The opening act was a guy named Jeff Klein who was from Austin. Quite interesting. Definitely a cliche with the broken-hearted rock star songs (on one I remember him singing, "If you break my heart, I'll break every bone in your body" Hmmmm). He did a lot of recorded bits/loops ala Joseph Arthur, and had quite a nice sound. He mentioned that people in Portland are too fucking friendly.
The next band was afterhours, a Greg Dulli handpick. They were from Milan, Italy. I loved them! They were total rock stars, with the moves and the poses and the clothes. Greg came out and did a couple of songs with them, and Jeff played on some of their songs as well. They were quite good. A lot of good energy.
So no martinis for me last night, but very little food and about 5 vodka tonics over a 5 hour span.
