Yo C,
Whatchu know about the West Lake area?
There's a full-time opening for a local reporter for a weekly paper (the West Lake Picayune) there that's published by the Statesman.
From the map I saw it looks pretty suburban an sprawly and I ain't crazy about having to attend city council and school board meetings again (and for a weekly, no less) but it'd get me to Austin and that's priority one.

Hey Chad -

I know very little about that part of Austin except that it is pretty as hell. My coffee house friends say that it would probably be a glorified society pages job, but not that glorified . . . more rich than sprawly.

Society pages would actually be perversely fun for a little while. Gimme a chance to get with some monied broads. I am pursuing this.
Got an instant callback today from the ass't managing ed of the Statesman (in charge of recruitment) and she sounded interested in me. They've got openings for some bureau positions, but haven't gotten the OK to fill them yet. She'll be getting a packet of clips this week as well.

I've found my compass on this again and it's pointing SXSW.

It was only 87 today and the humidity is hovering around 80 % right now. We are in storm warnings for the night, as we have been for the last week or so.
My boss was pissed when I got here because some of my co-workers had a couple overhead doors open to try to cool the building, but raised the humidity level in the building to nearly 100%.
