They're coming to town soon and I was thinking about checking them out. Anyone seen a recent show? Doug McCombs from Tortoise & David Daniell are opening and it's $20. Opinions, thoughts, or observations?

VI and I have our tickets for the Philadelphia show.

Have I ever seen them though? No. I can tell you how it is when we get back but I don't know if that will help you at all

They haven't played any shows this year yet except for a couple in Europe. The first one should be either tomorrow night or the next night at the End Times Fest.

I saw them do Lollapalooza a few years back ('94 I think) with The Pumpkins and Nick Cave. It was hard to get into them outside at 12 in the afternoon in 90+ degree heat but I'm thinking I want to give them another go in a small club. Hopefully one of the Chicago Obners will post an Intonation review. I think the show I was thinking about hitting is right before Phillie and NYC.

They don't play that type of music anymore, in case you weren't familiar with them. What they perform live now is more along the lines of Super AE/Vision Creation Newsun. You may already know this of course.

Thanks VI - that sounds like it would be interesting live. You sold me.

And Z - I'm looking forward to your review!

short set (50ish minutes, i guess not bad for a festival), but totally awesome. i'm not familiar enough with their music to be specific about what they played, though. very recommended.

I saw them last year and they had 3 drummers and one guy jumping around like a maniac with some weird light/sound things for the first song. then he played with a sampler? for the rest of the show. It was pretty awesome, top 5 show of last year.

Yea, their Intonation performance was most intense! Since it was outside, we didn't get to experience the light things, but everything else in the quote is right on. Highly recommended!
