man you sound exactly like the type of person Intonation was trying to keep from coming this year. "LOL WHICH 1 OF THOSE IS THAT GUY FROM WU TANG"

Not that is matters, but Ghost had the towel around his shoulders. As James said, rap rarely does it for me live either, and I really enjoy his new record.

by the way, devin the dude is awesome

That song he mentions, "Boo-Boo'n" is fucking awesome.

But rap is rarely good live, especially on a huge stage/huge crowd

day 2 was also a success. the rain somehow held off all day, which was a pleasant surprise.

the constantines were their usual excellence. lupe fiasco was pretty good too. "touch the sky" and "kick push" were highlights, as was another song i don't know. annie was alright, but this was the third time i've seen her and it's a tired act by now. the sword was awesome. blue cheer was a big disappointment.

the best act of the weekend, though, was jon brion. wow. he started out with "same thing" and maybe another song just on guitar. then he went to the drums and i thought he was just dicking around, but then i realized that he was looping them when he went to the piano and then looped something from there. then he looped a guitar track and then played and sang. it was pretty great.

covers were "baby, you're a rich man," "don't think twice, it's all right," "foolin' myself," and maybe another i forget.

special guests were benmont tench and glenn kotche.

the last song of the regular set was "i believe she's lying" and it was amazing. he looped two drum tracks, at least two guitar tracks, and one piano track. it was wild to watch. people were going bananas. and then they wouldn't leave, so a guy who seemed like an intonation bigwig brought out brion for an encore and he played a slow "waterloo sunset" with the guests.

You realize Phil is now hanging from Colin's ceiling fan, don't you?

If Phil lived in LA, he could see Jon Brion most any week.

you know, red and i actually discussed the impact that posting about that set would have on phil. at least it's not like he was in town and didn't go. then we'd actually have some serious concern.

Intonation was his first show since he cancelled his largo gig. Incidentally, his first cancelled largo gig was when we were in L.A. I was heartbroken.

So how many of you in L.A. have actually seen his Largo gig?

Having rehabbed through tendonitis twice, I know how serious it can be if you try and keep up your practice regime. I ended up having to quit viola, probably for life. I could have done it for a half hour a day, or quit, because if i did anything close to the 8-12 hours a day that i was doing, I would have wrecked any chances at playing anything ever.

Anyhow, I'm glad he played, that's a good sign. Hope he isn't rushing his recovery.

Extremely bummed I didn't get to see him.

yeah, once we figured out he was still in austin, we let up on the "WHY THE F*CK ISN'T PHIL HERE!?!?!?" talk.

jon brion - best part of intonation and i'm not just saying that to rub phil's face in it (i'm not that mean). he was amazing. i can compare his set to the time i saw tom waits. i was like, "tom who?" but my ex took me and i ended up in tears 3/4 of the way through, it was such an amazing show. i didn't cry yesterday, but i got some pretty heavy chills during a lot of his set.

the rest of the weekend was okay, too. ghostface was a lot of fun. lady sovereign was better than expected. always great to see dave and james. good times.
