So I came across the old Scientific American article about Brian Wilson and frontal lobe/executive control etc. I thought some of you people might enjoy it. I suppose it somewhat ties into this thread

Anyhow, I posted it on that 'I send it' site (I know it will expire but...) If someone has a place to host it and then wants to post the link, be my guest. File is in pdf format.

So this article is mildly interesting especially if you are interested in the whole brain mapping tsunami that is somewhat taking the place of well thought out experimental studies these days.

I found the most interesting idea to be how the loosening of 'normal' (i..e average, usual) connections/associations in the brain allow for more unusual (i.e. the ones which behavioral outcome is deemed 'creativity') connections to be made (or strengthened). Something like loosening one's grasp of 'reality' and a remapping of reality due to the weaker associations that now have prominence (or at least are not overshadowed by the stronger 'realistic' connections).

But still, in the end, who knows. The whole 'executive control' idea is about as well understood as 'attention'- a concept that has been around a lot longer (and is most likely highly intertwined).

I'm intimidated by this article (or your description of it). Could it be understood by an unfrozen caveman technology analyst?

Oh definitely- its from Scientific American which does a good job of distilling rather current research into a vocabulary that isnt jargon-ridden. Of course in the process, things become simplified- but this article isnt difficult to understand. I was somewhat disappointed with it.. but still.
