Syd Barrett dies
Pink Floyd legend passes away aged 60

Pink Floyd legend Syd Barrett has died at his Cambridgeshire home, according to online reports.

The singer, 60, who suffered from an LSD-induced breakdown while at the peak of his career in the Sixties, died last Friday (July 7) from complications related to diabetes.

His brother Alan confirmed his death today (July 11), telling The Guardian: "He died peacefully at home. There will be a private family funeral in the next few days."

"I want a death by misadventure,
Wanna die face down in some dude's pool.
Not gonna kick it in my sleep biting on my dentures,
When I die, Jack, it's gonna be real cool.

Not gonna die from drugs, don't wanna go insane,
Like that Pink Floyd guy, Syd.
I wanna be on a bus that crashes into a train,
Just like Ozzy Osbourne did.

Oh man.

All I can think of is how upset Tim (HoP/RPB bass player) is going to be when he hears this.

The man led a tough life though and has hopefully gone on to his heavenly reward.

Rest in peace, Syd.

F*ck. F*ck. F*ck.

Sad, very sad.

Argh.

I still had hope that he'd been secretly writing stuff at his Mom's place and it would one day surface.

Damn.

I'm quite a fan, both of the early Pink Floyd stuff he wrote and of his solo stuff. It's so sad that he died like that without ever getting his sh*t together again. Serious tragedy.

:( :( :(

I just saw this on google news. Shit. He's pretty much my favorite songwriter (go figure, given my screenname).

Bummer.

Guess I'll have to bring back some Floyd & Syd stuff from home after lunch.

Damn. I know he's been a recluse for years, but it's still sad to see how he never again was capable of tapping into his artistic gift and share it with the public.

Jesus, at least get the founding members of the band correct.

Really upset about this. He was a favorite of mine.

This is totally a publicity stunt for Pulse's release today.

Not upset as it was bound to happen eventually, I just hope he had a fairly quiet and decent life over the years.

I thought they did. Who was a founder other than Mason, Wright and Waters?

Sad news, indeed.

Yahoo.news corrected it. Originally it said Co-Founders Gilmore, Mason & Wright (Dropped Waters and added Gilmore).

saw this and thought some might be interested. this really is terrible news. the first pink floyd album was such a fantastic album, and one of the most important in my musical development.
