Cars are expensive.

Between the payment, gas, insurance, licenses, and maintenance, I bet we pay about $700 a month for cars, and I own one of ours clean and free.

I don't drive, I don't own a car. I ride my (crappy) bike everywhere or take the bus. Or bum rides.

I learned to drive in the parking lot of the school of music at UGA, using a friend's car when I was 22. I went out to the Clarke County DMV, took my driving test (not even on a real road, it's just a little course), got my license, and haven't driven a car since.

So though I am licensed, I can't drive for real.

I need my car for work and like going on road trips but hate being in traffic. I'll probably be driving less since I got a new bike though.

Aroostook reprezent!!

Everyone in Nashville drives. That's why the traffic BLOWS. I think there are a few people (mainly students and old liberal types that bike). Funny thing is, there are bike lanes all over the city.

I got rid of my (old and crappy) car in January and have no plan to purchase a new one. Public transportation is okay with me.

I covet the route close to my house so I could just ride a bike to work. That way the money my job gives me for gas every month could just go straight to my pocket.

My girlfriend can't drive for medical reasons, and it has been a sore spot for her. I always try to explain that she isn't missing anything.

Damn, the Caribou link has a link to Channel X Radio, which is where I work. Not only did I not know we have a website, I certainly didn't know how bad that website is. Looks like it's only updated randomly and has no streaming capabilities. Plus, only morning news is on there.

Here's one of my newscasts from, I guess, sometime in May:

my mom never learned to drive.
wasn't really a big deal until my parents got divorced.
we lived in walking distance of her work.
and walking distance to and from my school.

it sucked. i hated it.

luckily i always hung out with older kids. so, they always drove on weekends and such.
(i always offered gas money.)

actually, i didn't even get my license until i was 21. (and had already bought my own car.....and paid my own insurance.)

since i didn't have this luxury when i was growing up....
driving = freedom to me.

i'm never stuck anywhere.
i can ALWAYS get in my car and go! go! go!

i do my best thinking when i'm driving.

and it's something i will never take for granted.
i cherish every moment of driving.
even if i'm swearing at other drivers.

and road trips....
wooooweeeeeee!
nothing says freedom like the open road.
it's probably my favorite thing to do in life.

fucking right we have a wiki article...that means we exist. If anyone is bored enough to click on the Madawaska link...Fraser Papers is where i'm currently selling my soul for the green as a summer bitch.

Yeah living without a car would not be an option up here...its at least a couple hours from any form of civilization...(i'm not kidding)

In my town, public transportation is a joke. In this country, for the most part, public transportation is a joke. If you live in a urban area where everything you need is within striking distance, sure. I drive, though limited. My fiancee didn't drive until May. She finally got her license and a car. It took a tremendous stress off of me. When you take a trip and you're the only driver it sucks. Not to mention when you go to parties, now I can drink, and she can be DD, or vice versa.

I dont even think we have a taxi service in my town...but its ok, cuz apparently the last bar in town shut down a couple weeks ago.

This is huge, my town held some type of record for bars per capita or something like that in the 50's.

i hate driving. i have the WORST luck with cars.

i didn't have my car for a month and half when i moved into my new apt and let me tell you, it was not fun. living in los angeles without a car is impossible.

however, my commute to work is 10 minutes. SO NICE!! and since i drive a civic and with the gas prices these days, i love it.

but i still wish public trans was better in la.

Heh heh... for one to get in on that I would tell you to take a number, but lately there isn't any demand, so there isn't any line to wait in... so yeah, take a number, but whatever number it is, that's the one that's next. Or now. Since there isn't anyone currently being serviced. Without an ongoing demand for such a product, I'm not sure that this bum is worth even looking into 'getting in on'. It would seem that you're not missing anything. Since no one else is.

Definitely drive.

I grew up living outside a country town with parents working strange hours and only one bus service a day just doing the school route, so I couldn't wait to get my license and have some freedom (and neither could my parents, actually).

Sydney's public transport is a joke so even here I need to drive to get to sporting commitments and some friends' places, although I take buses whenever possible since the parking situation is also useless. This is why I will only ever live in the inner city while I'm here. Absolutely hate traffic though, which is something Sydney does all too well.

I do love road trips though. Just as well seeing as I have to do them a lot

Cars offer no such freedom.

a) Your sitting strapped into a glass and metal box.

b) The metal box that you are strapped into is confinded to a narrow strip of tarmac of which it can only move in a linear direction and the route of which was predesignated by someone else.

If you want real freedom put your boots on.
