we're going to see the ball game there tonight, and we want to find some place to eat beforehand. can anyone recommend me somewhere kind of nice, not terribly expensive, and not bar food-ish (like, halfway healthy). i know nothing about the city, really, and it's my birthday so you have to respond.

red and i were in milwaukee for a mets series in may and had a difficult time finding an eatery that matches that description. i'm sure they exist, but they apparently don't make them easy to find. and nothing is near the ballpark.

yeah, we figured we would have to go downtown to get anything even close to what i described. i think the halfway healthy part is the most difficult requirement...

there's a place on north ave called beans & barley that seems to be a little like a poor man's whole foods. they have a restaurant on the side and it's not bad.

once the real whole foods goes up across the street, this place will probably die.

Crawdaddy's is a cool little cajun place that's a favorite of mine and that's closer to the stadium.

yeah, you really should. i was there two weeks ago and finally saw a game with the roof open. it's nice both ways.

can you take bikes on the megabus? biking out to that stadium from downtown shouldn't be too bad. we were going to do it, but it rained. we instead took the downtown-to-stadium bus, which is insane.

How are these guys? I hear good things, but we were too lazy to get there in time for their Lollapalooza set. They're from Austin though. Weird.

going to the stadium wasn't so bad. motherfuckers need to know how to deal with people from out of town who root for opposing teams, you know?

the way back into town afterward was what was insane. the bus was so crowded and that guy at the front kept yelling "TURNBOW" over and over. (of course, turnbow then lost his shit and hasn't been the same since.)

the twisted fork is pretty good....it's near the bean & barley....have rogue dead guy ale on tap.

Miller Park is vastly overrated for a (edit: newer) ballpark and for it's selection of food. Safeco field blows it away.

I got into it with a few cubs fans on the 9th of July and thought i was going to actually have to throw down...it would have been ugly. The cubs fans that go to Miller Park we're especially obnoxious....and i used to feel sorry for them...but no more.

Greenfield Avenue, west of Moorland Road... There's a small 'staunt, great Italian on order. Go there.

but safeco is awesome because it doesn't contract its food services to one vendor. and because of its unique leases, it'll always have the best variety. watching a game at miller is pretty fun, though.
