here's the mix

http://www.sendspace.com/file/j5q7or

here's the track list

01. real thing
02. this is how it feels
03. many happy returns
04. she comes in the fall
05. sun don't shine
06. caravan
07. sleep well tonight
08. niagara
09. mermaid
10. generations
11. saviour
12. smoking her clothes
13. a little disappeared
14. i want you
15. uniform
16. saturn 5
17. cobra
18. i don't want to go blind

after listening to almost the entire ic discography, i have to say that i really like this band. i never noticed it before, but this music moves. in addition to the often-darting keyboards, the rhythm section packs an oomph that doesn't come through immediately, but when it does, you realize that these guys are really rocking out.

a couple of notes:

1) my favorite lyric comes from smoking her clothes: "guilt is a terrorist, holds his mind as a hostage...and when he speaks his mouth is an open wound..."

2) if you want to hear their first (and only) song that barely scraped into US radio airplay ("two worlds collide"), i suggest picking up any one of a dozen "alternative/generation x" compilations from the 1990s. if you want to hear the track "weakness", i suggest picking up the Children of Nuggets box set put out by Rhino. if you want to hear b-sides, peel sessions, and cover songs, which i've omitted from this mix, let me know. they are great too...in general it was hard to squeeze this down to one disc.

3) these files were unknowingly ripped at 320. the file size is like 149mb. so as mentioned in another thread, start uploading and then read a book or something.

4) i'd like to hear feedback, from old fans and from peeps who were waiting for this mix as an overview/introduction.

sincerely
bort

glaring omissions (IMO, of course):

joe
find out why
sackville

Revenge of the Goldfish is one of my favorite albums. Gotta pick up their other ones one of these days - sold off that one and Devil Hopping like 10 years ago, then was gripped by a sudden need to hear them again a few years back and bought Revenge for something like 50 cents on Amazon - and it's been a staple since. Ah - I see DH is available for a penny on Amazon right now. Can I afford that? Let me check my bank account . . . sold! And also grabbed copies of Beast Inside and Life for a penny and 44 cents, respectively - from the same seller. So for like $12 total (including shipping and RotG a few years back) I was able to buy all four of their albums. Not bad. There are a lot more dirt-cheap (mostly 1-cent) copies to be had on Amazon, if anyone's in the market.

I didn't realize how limited they were until I I purchased their greatest hits as an import and revisited their catalog. Talk about a band not being as good as you remember...
