listened to some polvo today and was totally nostalgic for my early to mid-90s life. what an insanely rad band... to me this band symbolizes early 90s indie rock.

TIME ISN'T ON MY SIDE ANY MORE THAN YOU

AND THAT'S THE ONLY THING FOR YOU THAT'S NOT FOR ME TRUE

or something along those lines

most consistent band of the nineties, period.

here's what i do when i miss polvo, see if it workd for you...

i go to the hardware store and i buy a box of nails, gauge barely matters. take a handful and arrange them in your hands so about a dozen protrude from your fists and run them down as large an expanse of chalkboard as you have access to. it is as though polvo is right there.

well, i actually enjoy busting balls a lot more than i enjoy polvo is the real problem here. i used to like those dudes and i saw them a few times, etc, but i went back and listened to them recently and wasn't really very impressed.

Also the name of a great mexican restaurant in ATX across the street from the sadly defunct Executive Kickboxing school.

Their fish fajitas are scrumptous (the restaurant's, not the Executive Kickboxing school's). :ironchef:

Oh and "Crumbling Down" and "Tragic Carpet Ride" kick ass :rawk:

oh, and little known fact. polvo and a number of chicago luminaries make up the soundtrack for the 1998 john hughes movie, reach the rock. it was curated by his son who runs hefty records and john mcentire did the score. interesting movie--definitely john hughes-esque with the requisite adult antagonist v. young protagonist--but has a much darker, solitary feel. check it out if you can. here's the track listing for the film:

in a thimble - tortoise
criminal record - john mcentire
overview - john mcentire
stolen car - john mcentire
drift brown - bundy k. brown
quinn goes to town - john mcentire
window lights - sea and cake
reverse migraine - polvo
lisa arrives - john mcentire
the kiss - john mcentire
main title - john mcentire
dreams of being king - dianogah

i need to revisit my polvo albums. they were always kinda frustrating, IMO. albums were always half full of brilliant songs and half full of crap.

i did enjoy seeing ash bowie and mary timony get in a HUGE fight at the bar of the black cat in dc before a helium show. i totally should have followed mary when she stormed out of the bar and consoled her.
